A while back I mentioned a bit of a "theological shift." Here it is. These are just some thoughts I had while listening to @DrJimHamilton and @kdclaunch at @KenwoodInst, which I commend to you. Thread.
I finally got around to watching this whole discussion between @kdclaunch and @DrJimHamilton. An outstanding discussion on the biblical and historical foundations of Baptist identity. I commend it strongly.

Either the Bible is the final authority or you are. The moment you say that you will accept one thing the Bible says but not another, youโve established yourself as the final authority!

Good thread.
๐งต Is Annihilationism True?๐ฅ Everyone online is suddenly talking about annihilationism. But does Scripture teach that the wicked simply cease to exist? Scripture says no, and for 2,000 years the church has said no. Hereโs a thread unpacking the key reasons whyโฆ ๐งต๐๐ผ

The true test of how giving a church is, is not how much $ they give, but how much $ they keep.

The problem is, the left built a zero sum DEI architecture in many domains. You don't get to implement zero sum approaches, then complain about people adopting a zero sum mindset.

Peasant societies believed gain for one person meant loss for someone else. Why does that idea still take hold in modern, industrialized, wealthy countries?

The real trouble is that 'kindness' is a quality fatally easy to attribute to ourselves on quite inadequate grounds. Everyone feels benevolent if nothing happens to be annoying him at the moment. Thus a man easily comes to console himself for all his other vices by a conviction

Tbf, I didn't want to believe the VA GOP ticket was real either, but here we are, and Republicans will probably never win again.
GOP research OP here...this is a serious problem. During the recent VA elections, polling showed most Democrats refused to believe the Jay Jones texting about killing his political opponent's kids stuff. If educated, theyd just say "But Trump."

A lot of annihilationist reasoning ends up being somewhat circular in its conception of death language

Appreciate Dr. Claunchโs response here.
@clbolt is a like-minded, level-headed, clear, and helpful thinker and has been as long as Iโve known him. I appreciate him taking time to listen to the podcast and respond thoughtfully. This thread is a response to his critique of the biblical case for congregationalism. ๐งต

The thought of creatures made in God's image spending eternity under His wrath is almost more than we can bear to conceive. The only reason we can believe it is becase God has revealed it. https://t.co/7VUbqyRxRP

If we donโt understand who we are in creation, then we will be inevitably hindered from understanding who God is and how we are to live in His world.ย This presentation was given by Tom Ascol on...

And they equivocate on just about every other term, too.
The annihilationists equivocate on the phrase "eternal punishment." A punishment, properly speaking, is a penal infliction upon a subject; it presupposes the continuing existence of the entity punished. Non-existence can be the result of a punishment, but it cannot itself be an

The oldest book in the Old Testament was written near 3500 years ago. The oldest book in the New Testament was written near 2,000 years ago. Yet no one has disproved anything in the Bible. Let that sink in. The Bible is the inerrant and infallible word of God.
