Thousands will gather this Saturday to remember the impact John MacArthur made on all of us. No one has impacted me as a preacher more than John. I was honored to interview him about expository preaching and wanted to share it with you on this special week. I think you'll be as.

I came across notes I took from a sermon in the late 1970s saying a large percentage of youth were leaving the church and how churches needed to adjust how they do things. I’ve repeatedly heard this same mantra for 50 years even while many churches kept adjusting. Maybe.

It should not be forgotten that it was @TGC (Timothy Keller), @T4Gorg, and @drmoore (while at @ERLC) that helped bring Allberry onto the reformed evangelical landscape.

Ultimately, our job as parents isn’t to raise our children to be independent. From the moment they’re born, we teach them to be dependent upon the Lord. In a sense, we help them transfer their dependence on us as parents to full dependence upon God their Heavenly Father.

Here I ask Dr. MacArthur about application in expository preaching. He says, "The weight of the truth of the passage needs to fall heavy on the believer so that the application becomes the work of the Holy Spirit based on the conviction of the implication."

This is such a good listen!.

Dr. MacArthur explains that an expository sermon is not a running commentary that gives equal focus to everything in a passage, but preaches the main point. The main point becomes the introduction and conclusion. And the middle makes the case for the main point from the text.

Although titles are important and matter, we once again see the real problems in the SBC regarding the office of pastor/elder won’t be fixed by merely addressing titles. Those who want to circumvent Scripture will always invent a way to do so.

A man shouldn’t look at or act toward a woman, other than his wife, in sexual ways. A woman shouldn’t dress or act in ways that encourage a man, other than her husband, to look at or act toward her in sexual ways.

I asked Dr. MacArthur if expositional preaching was just another style of preaching?. He said it's not just another style but it's a "method of explaining the Bible. what else would you do?"
