I really enjoyed writing this chapter on Victorian spiritualist sexology, natural gynecology, and reproductive rights. Grateful to be part of this volume by @VECLIPSADAS @edicionesusal

que hermosos los objetivos de año nuevo de Virginia Woolf en 1931: "to have none. not to be tied. to be free and kindly with myself. sometimes to read, sometimes not to read. to go out, yes but stay at home in spite of being asked"

as an English professor, I’d go as far to say these days I’m excited to see typos & fragments & run on sentences & page-long paragraphs & awkward word choices & any imperfection that suggests a human being sat down to do the very hard thing of writing a college paper.

If you’re someone who still reads for pleasure, you are a marvel. If you’re able to unplug from all the chaos of our entertainment culture and disappear into the warmth and solace of a book, that is a rare gift and I’m very glad to know you.

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

i’m strongly against people writing devastatingly depressing books that then get loads of critical acclaim and endorsement for their “great writing” if you can produce “great writing” maybe don’t install harmful mind viruses into everyone who picks up your book just a thought

BRITISH GOBLINS This remarkable painting is inspired by Rossetti's 1862 poem 'Goblin Market'. It's painted by English artist Hilda Koe (c. 1901). 'We must not look at goblin men, We must not buy their fruits: Who knows upon what soil they fed Their hungry thirsty roots?'

The actual reason for the birthrate decline is women entering the workforce but no one is ready for that discussion.
