Encouragingly, KCCA’s ongoing efforts including planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, road and junction upgrades, drainage improvements, street lighting, increased attention to pedestrian and cycling facilities were acknowledged as critical steps toward a sustainable system.

Key concerns raised included congestion, dusty and deteriorating roads, mixed traffic flows, weak enforcement of NMT infrastructure, and the need for stronger coordination between policy and engineering solutions.

Discussions underscored that mobility in GKMA remains largely informal and fragmented, with heavy reliance on walking, boda bodas, and taxis, alongside limited formal bus and rail services.

The dialogue brought together insights from contributors including Mr. Sam Mutabazi ,Mr. Kiwanuka, Ms. Juliana Nambatya, Mr. Moses Kyeyune, Mr. Simon Ibanda, and Ms. Clare, who highlighted both persistent challenges and emerging opportunities within Kampala’s transport system.
