Please prepare yourself and your family for frigid temperatures this weekend. The forecast in many places, particularly West Anchorage and Tyonek, is for significant winds and wind chills in the negative teens. Please gather supplies and be ready for any emergencies.
An Arctic air outbreak is expected to cause a number of hazards across Southcentral this weekend into early next week. Here is a look at all hazards currently in effect, ranging from high winds to blowing snow and blizzard conditions. See the graphic for more details. #akwx

10:05 am: Early indications are that both Chugach and MEA lost generation causing the cascading outages across our service territories. Additional generation resources are being brought on line and we are coordinating power resotration. Thank you for your patience.

This allows for the system to remain in equilibrium - generation has to be in balance with the electric load - and avoids a much larger outage. Members will be restored to power as other generation is brought on line. 2/3
