German backpacker Carolina Wilga has released a statement via @WA_Police thanking the West Australian community for its courage, warmth and care shown during her rescue. She also explains why she left her car after a crash left her dazed and confused. @SBSNews #CarolinaWilga

- Asides recovering from her minor injuries, she’ll also need emotional support - Her family are thankful and in disbelief as to how an entire community can come together to help - Carolina is still in disbelief as to how she was able to survive

#Update - She spent 1 day with her van then in the wilderness for 11 nights afraid no one was going to find her - Carolina used her knowledge of the sun to continue heading west - WA police has described her 24km trek to end up at a main road as “sheer luck”

A motorist was flagged down by Ms Wilga about 4.20pm. She’s suffered exhaustion, dehydration, sunburn, extensive insect bites and an injured foot. Police believed she became disorientated while travelling on inland route through remote bushland, before losing control and bogged.
