Thank you to everyone doing the hard work of reliving traumatic experiences, reading your stories has been cathartic. The coverage by powerful institutions like @nytopinion is validating. Coaches shaming athletes has been normalized, but let’s call it what it is - abusive.

A big shout-out to the guys I coach with who read the articles I send, engage in real conversation, and treat my experience as an asset to the team.

Some of the tools that I've found helpful for myself and people I coach with at the high school level are @laurenfleshman's letter to her younger self and podcast w/ @drmelodymoore, and delving into research on RED-S and Female Athlete Triad.

@NFHS_Org , @NCAA, and @usatf should develop (mandatory) training for coaches on effective prevention of RED-S. I’ve sent some emails, if anyone knows more about working with these institutions IRL, lets talk! .(The expertise of people like @DrKateAckerman is underutilized!).

Conversations and changing culture matters, but what systemic changes can be made? There are people in these systems that want to help and are doing their best, but they need tools and education. #FixGirlsSports.

What kept me from falling down a rabbit hole of ED was talking to a registered dietitian and a licensed therapist, who assured me my coach was wrong and showed real concern for me and my teammates.

I'm not ashamed this happened, because it wasn't my fault. (If anyone has ever done anything like this to you – ITS NOT YOUR FAULT.) What I am is mad. Mad at the institutions in our sport that have enabled and normalized this type of abuse at every level.

This is me running a 1500m PR. This is also me right before getting yelled at on the infield by my coach, while he pinched the fat on my arm that apparently demonstrated I didn't take my sport seriously. It was abusive, and it was WRONG. #FixGirlsSports
