Our charity seminar for @guardiangym was a success. Nearly $3600 raised, nearly 75 people on the mat, and about 2 hours of Woj Locks and Abe Locks. Grateful to end the year on such a high.

One of the easiest ways to improve your anxiety about anything in Jiu-Jitsu is to hyper-simplify. One task at a time. One step. One moment. Stop overwhelming yourself with goals and focus on the most important thing in front of you.

5 things no one tells you about "full-time Jiu-Jitsu": When I started Jiu-Jitsu, I didn't know what I wanted to do for a living. All I really knew at first was that I didn't want to do much else besides train. I was happy when I was training, and I wanted to be happy more

One idea that I have been working on recently in Jiu-Jitsu is simplifying the messages I tell myself. I used to focus a lot on the nuances of techniques and the subtleties that make things work. I have often over-conceptualized things with my training and even instructionals.

Some games you play so that you don’t have to play anymore. Other games you never stop playing because they’re fun and force you to grow. Wisdom is having the ability to tell the difference.

Why people get burned out of BJJ: Jiu-Jitsu is fun. But trying to be good at Jiu-Jitsu is hard, and the harder you work, the more likely you are to experience burnout if you're not careful. So what causes burnout? Here's why many people get burned out of BJJ more often than

When someone is rude or mean to me, I simply remind myself that that person used to be a baby, and I let it go. I can't be out here getting mad at people who used to be babies. That would make me a monster.

Jiu-Jitsu is good for self-defense, but it's great for self-offense. If you want to beat the crap out of yourself, do a lot of Jiu-Jitsu.

5 problems most grapplers have: We all have problems in Jiu-Jitsu. Maybe you suck at wrestling. Maybe you get hit with the same armbar by the same training partner every time you roll. Maybe your cardio is bad. But these problems are really just specific versions of deeper

“Surrender the outcome. Trust your training. Focus on the performance. Forget everything else.” This is what I have been telling myself before matches since the summer. My advice is to simplify the messages you tell yourself before matches. It’s okay if they don’t make sense

Lots of people asking for more of an explanation on this… Basically: You don’t need to learn more details to get better at Jiu-Jitsu. There’s not a secret move that will turn you into Gordon Ryan (this is a widespread idea in martial arts for some reason). The best grapplers
