A pleasure to join @SportsmithHQ sharing thoughts, practices and current research on sprint mechanics in hamstring injuries. ๐๐ฆตโ๏ธ Hopefully the episode provides some interesting discussions and thoughts for practice.
This week's Pacey Performance Podcast... @chrisbramah talks: โข Running mechanics' impact on hamstring injury risks โข The Sprint mechanics Assessment Score (S-MAS) โข Lumbo-pelvic control and overstriding interventions โข Avoiding S-MAS set up issues Listen via links ๐

So what comes first? Do strength & architecture drive mechanics โ or do mechanical patterns shape those adaptations?

๐ Key findings: Greater eccentric strength โ higher hip-flexion & knee-extension velocities, less anterior pelvic tilt. Longer fascicles โ greater hip flexion & faster knee extension, reduced pelvic tilt. Both linked to lower BFlh activation vs. medial hamstrings.

Using 3D motion capture, EMG, isokinetic testing & ultrasound, they examined how eccentric knee-flexor strength and biceps femoris long head fascicle length relate to running kinematics in trained athletes.

Can sprint mechanics help us predict injuries? Not exactly. However, they can still reveal a great deal In this clip from his Sportsmith Premium presentation, @chrisbramah makes it clear: injury prediction based on a single variable, like sprint technique or Nordic strength, is
