There are 3,812 graves at the American Cemetery on rising ground near the village of Madingley just outside of Cambridge. It’s one of my favourite places to just go and walk and breath. I look at the names and the dates of death inscribed on the stone cross of each occupant ..

To be fair I always shout at drivers who nearly knock me off my bike from close passes. Sometimes I scream, I regularly swear but I never care if they were a little bit scared.

With three years of cycling improvements, speed etc. I still cannot beat that Strava segment time from that day with fear and adrenaline powering me.

The fear I have of lone men when cycling in rural areas is measurable. 3 years ago when I took up cycling, I got scared by a group of men and cycled off. Inadvertently I cycled a Strava segment.
