I know expense trackers are probably dime a dozen. But I went ahead and made one anyway. And this is where I went a crazy. Because, why stop with one when I can build two 😂 One for iOS and one for macOS.

Even though the above process mostly worked, I started wondering why not I made my own app.

I wanted to make the expense entry process even more convenient. So I made use of the phone Shortcuts app and now I was able to add the expense directly from my phone!

I’d tell Siri what expense I had just made in natural language and that would hit a vibecoded Python script stored on my Mac that would parse it and record the expense in Numbers with the appropriate columns filled.

Since I was doing multiple transactions a day, I wanted to make the expense entry super easy and I made use of the Shortcuts app. With the shortcut created, I was able to even make Siri useful 😂

For the past few months, I had been using Numbers/Excel to track my expenses. Everytime, I made a transaction, I'd add the latest expense to the spreadsheet. To keep it fun, I added colourful pivot charts and stuff to the spreadsheet, which I could also use for analysis later.
