Can't stop thinking about how just a year ago workers could finally say no to $7.25/hour jobs. Abortion bans will create a permanent poverty class. People complaining about workers "not getting back to work" for $7 + people celebrating forced birth—that Venn diagram is a circle

I hate to add to the persecution complex that fuels right wingers but they need to be called on this bs. Black maternal mortality, climate crisis, poverty, healthcare—they would have been focused on that the last 50 years if they actually cared about regular families.

Instead, even more people — particularly Black women — will die in childbirth and from pregnancy complications, more people will be physically, financially, emotionally harmed, surveilled and incarcerated. And the poor will see hopes of socioeconomic mobility disappear.

An example of what I'm talking about -- last week's NYTimes opinion piece written by the woman who....carried around a fetus in a tupperware. They'll have you believe they're building a socialist utopia for families now that they've overturned Roe. That of course won't happen.

And how they plan to "support" kids whose parent has been incarcerated (incarceration: noted strengthener of families) after seeking an abortion.

How the fuck they intend to "support" people forced to give birth when the ghouls they vote for set fire to social safety nets every chance they get. A patchwork of Catholic charities—imagine, the pressure to "enter the Christian fold" just so you can feed your child—ain't it.

I've noticed a particular subgroup of forced-birth people bubbling up lately. Nebulously saying they like, totally super intend to "support" the people they're terrorizing into parenthood. That "now the work starts." Reporters, editors, some rigor would be nice. First of all ask,

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

Roe may be gone, but abortion is still available in many states. The National Abortion Hotline can help you find a provider in another state, arrange travel, and pay for your care: 1-800-772-9100.

The logistics of accessing abortion are about to get more complicated, with at least 26 states set to ban the procedure after the fall of Roe vs. Wade.

This country is being held hostage by the NRA and its government stooges enriched at the expense of innocent lives. The enormity of this outrage makes me sick with grief.

People stop going to get help when there is a risk they will go to jail for it. That is how people die. When you criminalise abortion, you criminalise every person able to get pregnant, and you put everything about them under scrutiny. They stop being human, and just become uteri

If you want a novella that stays with you, it’s “The Office of Historical Corrections” by Danielle Evans. Characters you get to know on a deep level and organic, involuntary-gasp surprises. I hope this story enjoys a long, long life in the culture.

So many hands built this victory, but I must single out the indefatigable, ingenious team at @fairfightaction, led by the powerhouse that is @gwlauren. From mobilizing voters to defending the franchise to moving the needle on what’s possible - this team is mighty! Thank you all.
