We are the actors, stunt performers, and stable hands of Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, New Jersey joining together in union to create a fairer, safer, and more enjoyable workplace. With a supermajority of support, we are excited to be forming our union with the AGVA.
Thank you to everyone who reached out to express their support for our effort. We are overwhelmed by the kind wishes and will keep folks posted on ways to show solidarity with our union in the lead up to our July 15 NLRB election.
Medieval Times has struggled with staffing, security, and safety after reopening from the COVID-19 closure. Additionally, our wages have failed to keep up with those in similar positions in our industry and what is necessary for a living wage in Lyndhurst.
With our seat at the table with management, we aim to collaborate to improve safety protocols and enforcement as well as create more equitable pay scales.
We enjoy performing for Medieval Times guests, and know that with our union we can foster a more respectful workplace that enhances our experience and that of our guests. We look forward to voting for our union on July 15!
Medieval Times' boast that our horses are truly the stars of the show, but the humans that take care of them are paid unconscionably low. Working long and hard shifts, moving around 2 ton animals and hay bales that can way up to 60 to 80 pounds.
Recently, our employer Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament filed an Unfair Labor Practice against our union, AGVA, claiming that we have not been cooperating fairly when deciding when and where our negotiations should be held.
Our union needs your help! Medieval Times management is refusing to discuss measures that would ensure the safety of our performers. We need you to show solidarity by telling Medieval Times management to bargain in good faith. Contact Medieval Times here:
The union halls will always be filled with the tails of Lord
@JortsTheCat
helping not only our cause, but so many others! Raise a glass to this fine feline!! 🥂🍻
Last week, we met at the bargaining table with Medieval Times to negotiate for our yearly raises. As this is an annual event and we do not yet have a contract, Medieval Times was required by law to give us the opportunity to bargain for our raises.
🧵During one of our first contract negotiation sessions, our unit kindly asked that Medieval Times management share with new hires that we had recently unionized. Management verbally agreed to do so, as it wouldn't be a problem. (1/3)
MEDIEVAL TIMES IS NOW CENSORING THEIR GUESTS. If you have commented pro-union sentiments on Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament's many social media channels, they have been deleted by the company. They have already tried to silence our voices don't let them silence yours too!
We have been pushing for the negotiations to be held over Zoom when we aren’t working. Also as COVID is also not over the Union wants to ensure the safety for all participants in the bargaining process. We, MTPU, want to be involved and at these meetings!
The frivolous lawsuit filed by Medieval Times today against its own employees and their designated bargaining representative is in brazen violation of the National Labor Relations Act.
Can't make this one up. Medieval Times has sued its workers' new union, alleging trademark infringement with the name "Medieval Times Performers United."
Far as I know, no other company with a "united" union name (Starbucks, TJ's, etc) has done this.
This is what WE WANT! We want to be part of negotiations! We want the ability to be part of changes in our workplace! WE WANT OUR VOICES HEARD! ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏿

A real say in our workplace is something have been fighting for and one of the big reasons we have started this mission with AGVA. We want our voices heard! We will not sit idly by as the Medieval Times makes it seem like our union with AGVA is being uncooperative.
These workers are the backbone of our show. They do their best EVERYDAY to keep these horses healthy, clean and happy. They should be able to provide for themselves as well as they provide for our horses

Instead, Medieval Times attempts to (nauseatingly) butter up our new hires and pretend the company hasn't been actively union busting for months or bullying its employees for years. Luckily, managers at our theater are shockingly terrible actors. We see right through it. (3/3)
We all know, however, that if there's one thing Managers are good at, it's failing to adhere to any policies set forth even by themselves! We have had roughly 10 new hires at the castle since our landslide victory, and not ONE has been notified of our AGVA representation. (2/3)
As the weather gets hotter, we've gotta make sure we stay hydrated so we don't pass put in our poorly ventilated and incredibly hot backstage area. A messenger pigeon told me that Union Buster tears are quite refreshing 💅
A pretty common thread in the company's attempts at union busting was always the phrase: "What about the horses? Will they think of them in these contracts?"
We think about them every day, and believe us, we have them covered because we care.
@MedievalTimes
clearly does not.
Full time Knights have been told to "find another job" when we have asked to be paid a living wage. Squires and knights are trained from the ground up at Medieval Times but eventually plateau. Therefore raises begin to stagnate as there becomes less and less to learn.
The companies last proposal for New Jersey was an abysmal 3% raise for stables and squires, 2% for showcast, and 1% for trumpeters! Some knights weren’t even offered $1!!! This is even after we lowered our offer!! ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿

After 76 days of no negotiation Medieval Times will be required BY LAW to negotiate with us for our annual raises. The time is NOW for Medieval Times to grant its employees significant wage increases. We encourage them to continue with the bargaining process thereafter.
We have declared an historic strike - starting tomorrow morning Monday 4/10

We look forward to standing on the picket lines with you!!
Here’s where to be tomorrow morning!

Actors have been treated as if they are nothing but decoration here. Being told "we aren't Broadway" when we compare our show and wages to other professional theaters. In reality, Medieval Times actually qualifies as a Broadway sized theater, seating about 1400 guests.
Our unit has received texts and emails from the Medieval Times anti-union site stating that they have filed an Unfair Labor Practice against AGVA for their “refusal to bargain in person”. This charge is unjustified, seeing as Medieval Times and AGVA have already agreed to and
Bargaining unit members were waiting for more than an hour and a half in a three hour meeting today to hear the company’s proposal for annual wage increases that we gave them two weeks to have prepared.
Our Trumpeters don't just announce every important moment of the show, they also help with small tasks before, during, and after the show. These men and women also have YEARS of experience and talent that Medieval Times is privileged to have.
We will be spending our “celebration” in the negotiation room bargaining for a better work place and living wages. Maybe fourth time is a charm & the company will finally raise their retaliatory proposal from cents to something meaningful.⚔️✊🏾✊🏿✊🏼⚔️
We are here to tell you that we’ve been working diligently for the last five weeks to prepare for bargaining by learning about the process, building our bargaining committee, and listening to our coworkers’ concerns.
Happy New Years Everyone!!! We hope you all thought of a good New Years resolution!! Our is to reach 25,600 emails sent to our management to encourage them to negotiate in good faith. .

Our union, AGVA, has filed an unfair labor practice against Medieval Times for filing a baseless lawsuit against us—their own employees—in retaliation for exercising our legally protected right to join together in union.
If you have ever enjoyed a performance at Medieval Times, we ask you to please show your support for the performers who made that possible. Tell Medieval Times to pay their performers a living wage.

All the money that
@MedievalTimes
is forking over to union busting lawyers could be going directly back to their hard-working performers or to improving the living conditions of their talented animals, but greedy corporations are deathly allergic to logic and reason.
We want to thank everyone for the support so far with our petition! If you know anyone else that would like to sign please send them to the link. And remember, our two sister locations still have yet to vote and also need your support! Make your voices heard!!
In an attempt to undermine our coworkers' confidence in our union, Medieval Times is questioning why bargaining sessions have not yet been scheduled when our election occurred over five weeks ago.
With so many areas needing to be addressed, time to brainstorm and listen to everyone is necessary and important. We are eager to meet Medieval Times at the bargaining table, but we need to take the time to hear from our coworkers.
Ye olde pizza party hits different up here in Jersey, but we'd still rather have a signed contract and a reasonable enough wage to afford that pizza on our own ✊️⚔️🛡
TIL a papyrus scroll indicates that, during the building of the tomb of Pharaoh Ramses III, the workers were upset about their treatment and, rather than discussing it with them, management served them a large meal.
In our last bargaining session, the company stated point blank that they are more than capable of paying what we’re asking for, but they’re not willing to because they don’t value us at that rate.
In the end, the company proposed an unconscionably low amount for every department discussed. For some, it was even proposed that there would be no increase whatsoever. We are disgusted by the greed and lack of preparation shown by the Medieval Times team.

Now they’re actively hitting protestors with cars and assaulting those on the picket line. Please please please signal boost this. These people just want to be paid living wages and for their company to give a shit about them and instead, they’re getting assaulted and arrested.
We proposed wage increases to bring the lowest-paid members of the bargaining unit in alignment w/ the living wage in New Jersey. The company proposed a 2% increase to some, 0% increase to others, & did not come prepared w/ promotions and wage information we requested weeks ago.
Months ago, the Queens of our Lyndhurst castle were asked to have open availability for this upcoming busy week at the castle, where we have 2 shows a day, every day. The Queens obliged, taking time away from other jobs and their busy lives to help this company... (1/3)
This year, the cost of living adjustment determined by Social Security is 8.7%
The insulting proposal from the company is in clear retaliation for our unionizing effort, when we’re hearing that non-union castles received raises this year upwards of 20%.
We were made aware that Medieval Times is still erasing pro-union comments. This is just one example from Instagram. Your guests are still watching Medieval Times! Erasing their voices is not the answer!!

To those who fought before us, those who fought with us and those who are still fighting; there is still work to be done but let's celebrate how far we've come. Happy

!!
To further add insult to injury, Medieval Times did not make themselves available to bargain with us this week. So we head into 2023 with no wage increases for our hard work.
Whoops, it looks like I dropped this silly little link explaining exactly why performers here in NJ, at
@MTUnitedCA
, and at every castle should be paid fair wages and granted the safety measures we've been fighting for 👀
Time and again, Managers tell our Queens to simply "ask for more hours," then turn down these requests, or like with this most recent example, attempt to replace them. Shame on
@MedievalTimes
management, and shame on any scabs currently replacing our Queens at
@MTUnitedCA
(3/3)
The labor board just brought a complaint against
@MedievalTimes
, saying management took part in an illegal scheme to get workers to pull their support for the union.
They say MT’s training director steered a withdrawal petition at the Buena Park castle.
It is a grotesque attempt to retaliate against workers for exercising their legally protected right to form a union and bargain collectively. But it will fail. It will not only embolden Medieval Times’ employees at its New Jersey castle to fight harder for a fair contract,
We are so excited the actors, stunt performers, and stable hands at the Medieval Times in Buena Park, California are joining us in unionizing. Follow them on Twitter at

In the wake of a robust vote to unionize at the Lyndhurst, New Jersey Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament Castle just a week ago, the knights, show cast, and stable hands at the Buena Park, California venue have thrown down the gauntlet to do the same!
It’s Election Day!
Reminder, voting will take place in the Castle’s photo tower from 1:00pm-2:30pm ET and from 4:00pm-5:30pm ET.
We will post the results on our website and social media channels tonight once the count is complete.
Forgot to post about this! Funny how all the haters say your just whining and being a baby but then 50% of the Buena Park castle wants to unionize. ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿

...put on the show we love to bring to our faithful guests. After sending the schedule at almost 2 in the morning (the day before the week was set to change), 2 Queens from completely DIFFERENT castles were given hours for performances OVER our current Queens. (2/3)
confirmed the negotiation dates of 9/21, 10/03, and 10/04. Apparently Medieval Times is basing their charge off of the fact that these meetings have been planned to occur via Zoom instead of “in person”. AGVA has chosen Zoom meetings as the best avenue for negotiations in order
can only lead us to believe that their goal is simply to make it more difficult for members of the bargaining unit to attend and participate in negotiations in a safe environment. We will make our voices heard!✊🏿✊🏻✊🏾

On 10/13/2022, Medieval Times filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Medieval Times Performers United & AGVA. The company has attempted to do damage control by sending a prepared statement from their attorney clarifying that the company is suing the union, not employees.

in their siege of the castle!
On a scale of 1 to Boo Boo the Fool, how clueless does
@MedievalTimes
management have to be to think that their fear mongering and union busting can scare people that ride horses and swing weapons at each other for a living almost ever day of the week?
The ballots have been counted & our voices will be heard⚔️✊🏻✊🏿✊🏽⚔️ Today the Medieval Times California bargaining unit voted 27-18 in favor of unionizing!

Yet they are treated as expendable both in their wages and the company's rethoric about them. They are paid less than retail workers and are regularly told that they are unimportant to the show by management.
