I think it’s really important to note that the most important job standardized testing does is check in and make sure kids are learning. They are not a perfect tool (far from it) but without them we just have vibes. And grade inflation is really hard to curb. That’s just a fact.
these kids' middle and high schools failed them catastrophically. giving a kid an A who hasn't mastered the material is one of those things that feels short-term nice and is long-term cruel.

To find out what you will pay for college, you usually have to apply, get accepted, and wait for a financial aid offer. Event ticketing and hotels must now display full prices upfront, making it easier for consumers to compare options. Colleges should do the same.

Omg, look what my kid read at school! Before the Internet, “if we wanted to understand a topic, we read a book written by an expert, edited by a professional, and published by a reputable house.” How quaint of us!

This is so cool. What a fascinating project. It’s stuff like this - good, risk-taking curiosity - that makes @the74 such an important publication.

If you’re looking for a school and not seeing it, the most likely reason is that it simply had too few students. We only included a school if it had 30 or more students take the 3rd grade ELA test.
