I think it’s really important to note that the most important job standardized testing does is check in and make sure kids are learning. They are not a perfect tool (far from it) but without them we just have vibes. And grade inflation is really hard to curb. That’s just a fact.

these kids' middle and high schools failed them catastrophically. giving a kid an A who hasn't mastered the material is one of those things that feels short-term nice and is long-term cruel.

To find out what you will pay for college, you usually have to apply, get accepted, and wait for a financial aid offer. Event ticketing and hotels must now display full prices upfront, making it easier for consumers to compare options. Colleges should do the same.

If you’re looking for a school and not seeing it, the most likely reason is that it simply had too few students. We only included a school if it had 30 or more students take the 3rd grade ELA test.
