I know from firsthand experience what a unique & endangered art institution the @TheRCAConwy is. A registered charity, it’s so much more than just an art selling venue. It’s a community & its loss would further reduce the richness of the visual & social art scene in & of Wales.
Wales’ first and only Royal Academy, a cornerstone of Welsh art and cultural life since 1881, is at risk of closure due to lack of funds

💥The Bernat Klein Studio has been saved! This morning the coalition of Scottish heritage organisations secured the property at auction with a winning bid of £279,000. The studio will now be restored, creating a new venue to inspire creative arts in the Scottish Borders,

It's good to know that, thanks to the generosity of the Hibbards, @Art_CASW can nurture younger creative talent in these challenging times for the arts in Wales, and beyond.
Sculptor Manon Awst has just been awarded CASW's 2025 Hibbard Prize, a prize created in 2024 for emerging and early career artists with a bequest from Professor Bryan Hibbard and his wife Dr Elizabeth Hibbard.

‘Salome’ (1938). Yesterday, I returned to Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery in Merthyr to look at this masterpiece painted by the 27-year-old rising star Alfred Janes. My monograph on the artist should see the light of day in December 2025, published by Parthian Books.

Amazing stuff. I met the wonderful Fred Janes in 1998 and am in the process of writing a monograph on him, to be published by Parthian Books at the end of this year.
