What would happen if there were an oil spill in the Arctic? UM researchers are working to find out so we can be ready. This past winter, a team from the (CEOS UM) completed the first-ever controlled oil spill experiment at the Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO).

Three CEOS members of the Department of Environment and Geography, ran a field course on Lake Winnipeg last week. The course involved class lectures, followed by 3 days aboard the MV Namao, examining water quality gradients from the Red and Winnipeg Rivers #Fieldtrip

Maeva Gremaud, PhD from Switzerland, is simulating ozone & mercury depletion events at a mesocosm scale at SERF. For this she has 2 acrylic tubes, one blocking the UV & the other not blocking UV, in order to measure the difference in depletion related to sunlight.@RiddellFaculty

CEOS exciting news! The Sea-Ice Experimental Research Facility (SERF) is home to UM’s first Solar Panel Installation (8kW DC) that generates power for SERF and feeds excess energy back into the Manitoba Hydro grid. A big thanks to the UM Strategic Initiatives. @RiddellFaculty
