More AA arabica coffee from Bukalasi, Uganda getting it's roast on here in Aurora, Illinois and then making its way to retail shelves across the USA even as hundreds of farmers in Bududa and Kapchorwa bring in a new harvest that will taste even better.
Been planning a number of different consortiums around Ugandan products that I want to help get a foothold in the USA market via Aurora, IL. Coffee is obvious. Also thinking chocolate, vanilla, herbal teas, wood crafts, art, dried fruits and nuts. What am I missing?
Just a couple of

mzees getting stuff done in Kapchorwa. Don't presume, the Mzungu may be the coffee buyer here but the Sebei is his landlord.
I'm not sure there is very much in life worth doing that can be accomplished without partnership, conversation, friendship.
It's a new day in Kampala & I'm hopeful as we begin several days together as Uganda's Trade Representatives around the world. I read this morning about Barnabas and how he was simply called "a good man". That's my simple prayer this morning. In this role, at such a time as this.
Thanks for hitting up my DMs with lots of great questions. A little lonely in the office today and you've kept me company.
Oh yes... That is an archery target. I try to shoot my longbow daily. Amazing for stress relief.
We are setting a goal of taking on $1 Billion USD in Ugandan exports into the specialty market in the USA. It's going to be busy for the next several years. But the Specialty market is the pathway to prosperity for everyone in the value chain. Coffee, Vanilla, Tea, etc.
Looking with gratitude at the end of 2022. Here we raise our ebenezer, by God's help alone, we have made it this far. Now on to 2023 and new challenges.
Happy New Year to You! Keep brewing all the good you can!

My dad passed away yesterday morning. I'm not okay. But I'm grateful that I've always had a dad who loved me. And I'm glad our relationship got sweeter every year. And I know he was proud of me.
I'm still trying to figure out how he did some of the things he did.
Fascinating that in the process of criticizing me for accepting a posting from His Excellency to serve Ugandans, some of those calling the government violent have also sent me death threats.

If you have the most money, you can bully competition and gain market for your inferior products. If you don't, you need differentiation for market penetration. Make your product irreplaceable - utterly unique. How do we do that from Uganda to the rest of the world?

I shoot my recurve bow, drink coffee, read a little Bible. My Aurora routine anyway. It's been a few weeks since I've been on my makeshift range at the roastery and I think it was a pretty solid grouping.

We did a big Christmas feast this year. Was exhausting. Next year maybe cheeseburgers? But precious. The kids are growing up extremely fast. Can't take these times for granted. Wishing I could slow it down.
"I am not poor, but my head is poor." - Endiro Growers Bukalasi Women's Group | I heard this saying from our coffee growers years ago and it still challenges me almost daily to rethink my assumptions and reject what I am told is impossible.
Made it to Lincoln, NE in day one of my journey to Portland for the Specialty Coffee Expo. Not tremendously scenic driving through Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska. Unless you like big trucks stops, endless farmland, and embered evening skies. (I do.)

Of course, remember my three keys -
1) Is it sustainable for the farmer and the land?
2) How can the product be differentiated so that it breaks into the specialty marketplace?
3) Does the model create value as a pathway to prosperity for everyone from origin to consumer?

Loved my time with Latitude Chocolate today in Kampala. These folks are changing the world for over 4000 farmers in Uganda. Giving them a voice, a brand, generational wealth, and more. I'm excited for what's to come in partnership with them!

If you begin with accusations instead of conversations, I simply don't have time for you. Disagreement is welcome and constructive and I'll do my best to reply. But if you just want to use my account to get more exposure for your ugliness, I'm not interested.
4000 lbs later, I hopefully have bigger muscles. But I will take this moment to encourage Uganda to research craft beer makers. Our neighbors use hops, vanilla, coffee, cacao, honey, cinnamon, wheat, milk sugar, caramel and more to make their beers. Can't we grow that in Uganda?
Hehe. Seems a candid shot was snuck of me tasting the 100 proof mango moonshine from

But I will say the 80 and 120 proofs were quite good. They're on to something for sure. They even have a
