Americans who appreciate affordable food should rally for the restart of the US refugee resettlement program, my @WorldRelief colleague Nan Allen argues in @agripulse. 25%+ of work-eligible refugees we resettled last year work in agriculture

Heartbreaking. This decision may be legally correct, but it's certainly not just. Last week, just before this now-expiring one-week reprieve was announced, I went on @CBNNews to explain why our country should not withdraw legal status from these Afghans

This story that I shared, it turned out, was from 2019 -- no less troubling then than now, and a reminder that many of these dynamics of inhumane detention conditions are not new -- but the problems are magnified as the number of people detained increases significantly.

This related story -- highlighting how many of the Venezuelans sent to the Salvadoran prison were not only never accused of crimes, but also had entered the US lawfully & sought asylum because they feared persecution in Venezuela -- is heartbreaking

Like most of the more than 230 Venezuelan men deported to a Salvadoran prison, José Manuel Ramos Bastidas had followed U.S. immigration rules. Then Trump rewrote them.

I'm grateful that these US citizens are able to come home, but to have subjected Venezuelans who were never charged with breaking any law (in any country) to months in a terrorist prison at US taxpayer expense so as to be bargaining chips was unjust, unethical & likely illegal.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Salvadoran and Venezuelan governments have now confirmed today's prisoner swap:. 250+ Venezuelans deported from the US held at CECOT returned to their home country. 10 Americans held in Venezuela returned to US.

Thoughtful perspective from Baptist pastor & theologian @glshultzjr . Even when someone is convicted of a crime, they are a human being who should be treated with dignity & have their religious freedom respected. And most in immigration detention aren't even criminals.
