Self-promotion on Twitter has never been my strong suit but I'm excited to announce the publication of my book, Dust on the Throne: The Search for Buddhism in Modern India with @navayanabooks and @stanfordpress

Very late to the game on this one (seems to be my MO on X!) but I couldn't agree more that it would be a great episode for @EmpirePodUK: what say you, @DalrympleWill? My argument on Buddhism in India post-1500 remains the most contested part of my book but is also a good story.
@DalrympleWill While this article has problems (but not Sinclair's essay it references), none comes as surprise. Just read Douglas Ober's Dust on the Throne for thorough discussion of Buddhism's afterlives in post-1500s India, including Buddhaguptanatha. Need an episode with him on @EmpirePodUK.

The grand spectacle of Hindu-Buddhist unity at the Kumbh Mela is thus less an eternal truth than a political performance – one with deep historical precedents and contradictions.

Thank you Chandrabhan Yadav and @TheIndiaForum for this kind review of Dust on the Throne. Glad to see it continue generating conversations across different domains. @navayanabooks @stanfordpress.
Reports of the death of Buddhism in precolonial India were greatly exaggerated. The many Buddhisms promoted by ideologies across the spectrum in modern times came to distinctively shape South Asia. Chandrabhan Yadav on @cascadechild's book @stanfordpress.

These are all great sources on the subject (although I’m obviously very bias regarding my own contributions). So much of the scholarship is scattered in bits and pieces but I’d also add DC Ahir, Eleanor Zelliot, G. Aloysius who have classic essays/books. A reading list is needed!.
I’m developing my reading list of must read books on Buddhism in modern India. Looking at Upinder Singh, Lal Man Joshi, Douglas Ober, Gitanjali Surendran, David Geary. Anyone know these scholars? Worthwhile? Recommendations? Or warnings?.
