Docs are a little harder to find these days since the CCP scrubbed social media, but a significant update has been added re: detentions. Now the collection >350 docs & 1000s of pages (unlike @nytimes, it's publicly available). (hosted on a new link)

Ummm. ok. sure, terms like 一般户 do not determine lengths of house stays. yet, here they do😂 and, I'll die on this hill: fanghuiju--see OP--is about surveillance. (reposted for clarity)

Nice try 😂😂 It’s a national poverty-alleviation household card that can be seen all over poor parts of China… its not a security-risk chart. “一般户” here just means the family is not classed as poor, and the “帮扶干部” box lists the cadre assigned to help with.

the program is about surveillance. the Party forced residents to "open" the one intimate space the existed beyond the reach of the government

Also, as shown in the poster, each family is assigned a cadre. In this case, because the family is "regular" (一般户 ئادەتتىكى ئائىلە) and not "trustworthy" they would be subjected to more overnight stays from their assigned cadre (帮扶干部). for example,

Happy when vloggers unwittingly post evidence of state violence in the region. This poster is from the fanghuiju (sometimes called "becoming family--long story) campaign. As shown, each family is designated as either "regular" (true here) "trustworthy" or "untrustworthy. "

Held in a "Villager Service Center" and attended by local cadres (as is now the policy), this Uyghur wedding is one of the oddest, most awkward I've ever witnessed.

Here's another type of Uyghur wedding the government has popularized recently

Another highlight of this trip: I got to attend a traditional Kashi wedding, and it was one of the most joyful, chaotic, and beautiful things I've ever seen. Everyone was dancing nonstop, and at the same time, people were stuffing money into the bride and groom's hands and

I guess "bumped into" now means participated in a CGTN-sponsored discussion about the "real Xinjiang" funny how they were all in Kashgar together at the same time. i love coincidences!

A few steps into Kashi's old town, and you will see it. Something simple, sweet, and local. For five yuan, here's what you get. Come take a look.

Here is my 120m^2 appartment in downtown Xinjiang which costs 2000¥ ($260) per month. You can truly live like a king here😁. It would be 10x this for downtown Shanghai! How much would it cost in your city?

The word “terrorist” is a meaningless tool of imperial narrative control. Want to bomb some people? Designate them as terrorists. Want to silence protesters and dissidents? Say they’re supporting terrorists. Want sweeping surveillance powers? Say you need them to fight terrorism.

can't imagine people will flock to a place where its prominent scholars, including a former president, were sentenced to 20 years, life in prison, and 18 years respectively on charges which evidence has never been shared publicly. But, hey, he's in town. he should ask for details

All these Ramadan--and now Eid--posts about the "freeness" of religious expression by folks, some dressing up like sultans. For reference, here are some of the rituals, practices, and celebrations of the sacred month before authorities tightened restrictions.

Many restaurants were closed except for iftar and dinner, as this sign indicates; "[Only] 'iftar' and dinner will be served." second sign reads: "[We're] sorry. Food is not being served"
