We thought health shocks through caregiving in couples would hurt labor outcomes. In the Dutch system, they didn’t. What we didn’t expect? The healthy partner’s own health declined—a lot. That’s the finding that stuck with us. 👇🏽.
Health shocks within couples cause broad and lasting effects on the partner's health, including increased mortality and mental health deterioration, from @caroartc, Natalia Vigezzi, and @pilargargo

In my 2nd year of the PhD I found out I was the only student paying tuition (with a loan!!). I had no idea that wasn’t the norm. Went to the grad chair and he was like, “Oh yeah, we can cover that.” 😑.
When I got my first faculty offer I had no idea to negotiate. My colleagues told me to ask for more, I called my mom for advice (grew up working class in USSR). She said “take the offer. If you wait they’ll take it away.”I did. Later found out I had lowest pay in the dept.
