My first icon is still in progress (and has been on hold for far too long), but I tend to think it's a bit better than anything you'll see from Rupnik.

Homosophists are gonna do homosphistry. But, since we're talking about distinguished Scripture scholars, here's a look at what Bruce Vawter, CM (1921-1986) wrote about Genesis 18 in his 1977 book "On Genesis" (Doubleday). Vawter, of course, was no right-wing traditionalist; quite
Anyone preparing homilies for this weekend will notice that the First Reading is Abraham's bargaining with God to prevent God's wrath against Sodom and Gomorrah. Here is a distinguished Old Testament scholar on what the sins of those cities really were.

Darned cannons keep going and going and going.
MacArthur defends Sola Scriptura against Catholics:. "Scripture claims to be the only authority. You have that wonderful statement in Jude that this is the faith once for all delivered to the saints. One of the severest errors in Catholicism is that the canon keeps going & going"

Back in 2002 or so, I took some 400-level philosophy courses at the U of Oregon. One of them was in early medieval philosophy, which included several classes on Augustine. In about the third class, a student raised his hand and asked the professor: "Could you tell us about.
Islam didn't come into existence until hundreds of years after Christ was born. The public education system has failed. Goodbye.

My thoughts @cworldreport on today's Readings:. Americans are, in general, a pragmatic and practical people. We know how to get things done, how to organize, how to make a plan, and how to put it into action. Work may be āa rat raceā and āa grind,ā but we take satisfaction in.

". criticism of the regime. ". Who can ever forget the nightly rants by Colbert against Biden, Harris, Fauci, and Co.? Epic. Unflinching. Honest. Scathing. Ah, good time, good times.
If you refuse to see what is happening, the cancellation of the Colbert show should open your eyes. I want to explain to you what a censorship state looks like - where a corrupt government gives favors to media that suppresses criticism of the regime.

Excellent piece on a topic that is near and dear to me. And very kind of @JLLiedl to include some of my thoughts on the topic of deification, especially as it relates to one's spiritual life.
The revival of "theosis" theology hit a major milestone last year with the publication of an Oxford handbook on the subject. Now, something else is in the works with big implications for Christian unity: a Catholic-Oxford joint declaration on deification.

Excellent post. @keatingkarl's Catholicism and Fundamentalism, @patrickmadrid's first Surprised by Truth collection, and @DrScottHahn's class lectures on soteriology ("The Catholic Gospel") all played a role in my journey to and into the Catholic Church. I later worked for.
I'm incredibly grateful for Catholic apologetics OGs like Scott Hahn, Patrick Madrid, and Karl Keating, who have defended the Faith for decades without a hint of scandal in their lives.
