The fear of poverty, of being able to meet your basic needs, prevents women from leaving family and domestic violence. Lifting income support payments must be part of a national strategy on gender-based violence. #auspol #16days #NoExcuse #poverty #inequality #RaiseTheRate

New research from the Poverty and Inequality Partnership led by ACOSS & @UNSW Sydney focuses on material deprivation. People experiencing poverty are unable to access life’s essentials leading to poor health, isolation and vulnerability to future financial shocks.

Half of those relying on JobSeeker experience multiple material deprivation — i.e. are forced to go without two or more essential items. The recent @ACOSS @UNSW report makes clear that our social security system is failing to do what it is supposed to do: support people.

@CSRH_UNSW @carlatreloar The conference created a platform for community members to share their narratives, shedding light on how institutions, including those in health, operate in silos. They also offered insights on how to improve these systems for better inclusion and impact. #TacklingStigma2024
