Fear is a natural reaction to radical exceptance of the truth. Don’t be afraid, you are not crazy. You’re processing the truth and it’s so painful and dizzying and I’m telling you that you are not alone.

I just want you to know I’m thinking about you. There’s so much suffering in the air, I can smell your pain from here. And I think it’s delicious and uniquely beautiful and I can’t wait to see the art that you’ll soon make.

Because those of us that look like protestors, or antifa, or dreamers... we knew this would happen and we tried to appeal to you diplomatically, on your terms, by your standards, and, yet, here we are.

And if you’re reading this and wondering: is talking about me—yes, I’m talking about you.

And I need you to acknowledge and accept that when you said that, you were performing violence on me and on your staff that look like me.

I take no pleasure in saying this, but to my white restauranteur peers who messaged me before to say that I was being fatalistic or antogonistic: I told you so. I literally told you this would all happen and you called me crazy.

Power is out for at least 16 sq blocks, so I’ll lose the contents of my walk-in over the weekend—about $10-15K, due to climate change & physics. And this is fine, I can adapt. But this is just the beginning of the beginning. There will be greater challenges in the coming months.

To my industry friends & network: recommendations on a 36” commercial, indoor wood-burning grill?

If we in restaurants provided such incomplete services and products in the course of our work, our customers would abandon us.

If you guys are so fucking smart, then why have you not finished and refined the features we need to conduct our business and provide better take-out service? Why are we still beta-testing your half-baked software and services 4 months in?

The restaurant industry has been leaned on and getting crushed for four months now, and none of the tech companies that serve us have done anything useful. Not the delivery apps, the reservation services, or the point-of-sale system providers.
