I’ll be controversial. Most large professional conferences have stopped being fun a long time ago. I enjoyed smaller gatherings where crowds are genuinely happy to engage with each other. Last night we had one such occasion. Hadn’t had this intellectual stimulus in a while…🧵.

Thoroughly enjoyed judging a @RUSI_org debate last night. The question was whether the current wave of tech innovation resulted in revolutionary change in war at sea. Great speakers from industry, NATO, academia and the navy. I won't divulge the result. But what do you think?

It was great to be @RUSI_org yesterday for the annual Gallipoli Lecture delivered by my old friend and former boss @VAdmAndrewBurns. "It's the economy, stupid" is a phrase which should ring down the centuries. Naval power is intrinsically linked to national prosperity.

This is a key point. One of the things we in RNSSC are looking at is why NEC/NCW and other initiatives didn't succeed in the way they should have. Can it be done better now?.
I'd say it looks a *lot* like the re-imagination of Network Enabled Capability (or Network-Centric Warfare if you're American). It proposes halting the reduction in personnel and platform numbers, and - if implemented - would be a genuine change in the way the UK fights.
