Did you know that when they say stuff like "The A18 uses TSMC's 3nm process" or "announced the 2nm node" The 3nm, 2nm actually doesn't mean anything?! It's just like a version number. They make it up. Literally nothing measures 2nm or 3nm. I certainly didn't know.

I'm still not sure it's the backlight. When I turn down brightness to 0 (effectively turning off the display) I can still hear the ringing

But now, I'm not sure what to do about this other than put on some music and try to ignore it 🫠

ChatGPT thinks that the PWM that drives the brightness might have a base clock of 64khz, which would have a subharmonic at 6.4k... the frequency I'm seeing

It turned out that it was my monitor! In the video, can you see when I unplugged my monitor? Here's a pic of the peak frequency when the monitor was plugged in (For reference, this is the 38" LG 34BK95U-W)

Then I started turning off breakers for my office all nearby rooms. Then I went up to measure, and the sound had gone away, so it was clearly something in one of the rooms. One by one I turned on and off things until I could immediately map cause-and-effect

First, I thought it was my neighbor’s electric car charger, which is in the garage directly beneath me, but when I went downstairs to measure, the sound would go away 🤔

When it’s dead silent in my office, I’ve been hearing a very faint high pitched ringing. I thought it was just in my head, but today I have definitive proof that it isn’t!!
