Nigerians: we love you, but you love some exceptionalism too much. You're too quick to exceptionalise yourselves and your suffering. Museveni's dictatorship has been wilding, Omah Lay and Tems' experience isn't because of their Nigerianness. Museveni deported Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Like we ridicule the US for its collective ignorance about the world outside its borders, only caring about exploiting it, South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya generally and in that order approach other African countries the same way. Too exceptional! Rarely center other Africans.

And btw, I personally learnt about #EndSARS from Ugandan activists tweeting about it. If you reciprocated the interest other Africans take in you and your affairs, you'd have approached Omah Lay and Tems' arrest differently. You'd have known about the November massacre in Uganda.

You hide behind your colonial nationalism, aka flag nationalism, and have built an exceptionalist attitude that distorts your analyses of how other Africans in other countries are suffering. Omah Lay and Tems' case isn't about Nigerianness but Museveni's dictatorial methods.

Uganda is a colonial creation. That is not "news". English as the official language of Uganda is of course a colonial imposition. That is also not "news". It may however be news to some, that Kiswahili as an official language of Uganda, is also a colonial imposition.

The Moi dictatorship put out a warrant of arrest for Matigari, and when they realised he was a character in a novel by Ngugi wa Thiong'o confiscated all the copies they could find. Ngugi created a fictitious character that put a dictatorship on tension they wanted to arrest him.

In 2018, let's read more books. Let's leave the idea that seeing tweets about a topic makes us knowledgeable enough to form opinions, or finding stuff on reductive blogs and websites should replace books. Let's read, let's have informed opinions. Even if it means tweeting less.

@timi_taiwo_ @JackyKemigisa Because really, from Lugard (the colonial figure in both Ugandan and Nigerian histories) to the #LekkiMassacre and the November massacre in Uganda, what ordinary Nigerians are going through, ordinary Ugandans are going through, too. Our different flags do nothing for us!

Victoria has no lake in Africa. Please call that lake by the names the people who have lived around it for centuries call it. Lake Victoria is not just fiction, it is an oppressive fantasy. To repeat it is to participate in the oppression. Victoria has no lake in Africa.

Uganda is not a Nation. "Ugandans" are not one people. Uganda is only about property. Uganda is violence. Uganda is a prison. Uganda is a plantation. Uganda is a colony. Uganda is an enterprise. Uganda will be abolished. Uganda must be abolished for "Ugandans" to be free.

Class can't be an axis of intersectionality because it is not an identity like race and gender. Class is a position, a relation. Your class is determined by your economic position in the production process. Are you an exploiter or the exploited? Class is beyond intersectionality.

Eh! People who have one script for diaspora audiences, which is revolutionary what what, but then come back home, to their countries of origin, and unleash the worst classism known to humanity, please, what "revolution" beyond rhetoric are you about, without a class analysis?

Hey, if you are an emerging, aspiring, young, not widely published writer, remember to hype your own work, first. Don't repeat my mistakes else you stay emerging and aspiring forever, like me. Hype your work, and your peers' work. Grow a mutually beneficial community.

I was reading your father's work the other night, to imagine someone who bears such an important name as you, is tweeting this type of Fake news is really heartbreaking. I am heartbroken for your late father. To imagine the blood on your inlaws' heads has turned you into this.

Why do we, Africans in some countries, refuse to support our own initiatives and jump onto those by White people, especially the mediocre?

Those tweets about "Hooliganism" and "rowdy" protesters (the "riots" framing too) are a dogwhistle. What is a dogwhistle? "A subtly aimed political message which is intended for, and can only be understood by, a particular group." It is meant to justify the military violence.

This month, @Writivism announced a relaunch, finishing off my wishes for 2023. I completed the PhD in English at the end of July, and I have started a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor, Global Africana Literatures at CSUDH this month as well.

Permanent job. Completing PhD. Resuscitating @Writivism . Those are three requests. Sigh.

Sometimes, it is not that we disagree. It is that we actually do not know / understand what someone is saying, at all, and we mistake that lack of knowledge for disagreement. In 2018, may we learn to say stuff like, I do not know about that, so I can't agree / disagree.

@timi_taiwo_ @JackyKemigisa Dani Wadada Nabudere's Imperialism and Revolution in Uganda is a good starting point. @SharingUbuntu 's channel may help with the PDF / ebook version of that very book and other titles and materials.

So the big private businesses turn out to all belong to Mr. Museveni and his family or their associates, so in the place of the private sector, Uganda has a Museveni sector. The state therefore as a tool not for just for capitalism but for the Museveni family's capitalism.

The reports of UPDF soldiers raping the women among the detained Bobi Campaign Team must be taken seriously. Museveni uses rape as a tool against his opponents, from raping men and women in Acholi, to raping political prisoners. Museveni's dictatorship is violent in all ways.

Why do you still use English to condemn colonialism? Because English is the language of the prison and we are still in prison. Punishments still exist for using our African languages. Next?

Mbu in Uganda, they order an electricity blackout around the time for the daily evening news when the stories show brutal actions of the Museveni dictatorship. Is it true? Nowadays, nothing is surprising about Museveni's shamelessness. Somebody tell me, we add to the pettiness.

As @NativeLandgrab would put it, Julia Sebutinde is a classic case of a result of the “mission school system”. Gayaza and “Budo” are two of the oldest and still considered best schools in the colonial construct of Uganda. They were started by the Church Missionary Society.

Ankole was created by the British on October 25, 1901 when they added to the original Nkore, the former independent kingdoms of Igara, Sheema, Buhweju and parts of Mpororo. Like "Uganda", Ankole is a colonial creation.

Why must there be a "foreign" language, even if an African one, imposed by force (it is renown as a military language and many have traumatic memories of being violated, that we attach to the language), as an official language? What is wrong with indigenous "Ugandan" languages"?

The funny or silly bit about those "The Uganda I live in" posts and tweets is that the people posting them don't live in national parks and game reserves. They're not posting their homes. They're posting tourist attractions. Places they go to, as visitors. Anyway, as you were.

Middle / upper class people should stop nwe-nwering about revolution if they do not want to stop exploiting the working class and therefore lose their middle / upper class positioning. Class is not an identity. It is a relation of production. It is an economic position.
