The examination involved birth date, MRI, education level, overall physical growth & posture, dental development, & bone growth via radiography. The age assessment was carried out by Forensic Medicine and Pathology Department at Ethiopian Police Hospital.

Male U18: None met the U18 age criteria; 4 were reclassified as U20. Female U18: 2 were confirmed as U18; 9 were reclassified as U20. Male U20: Only 2 met the U20 age requirement. Female U20: Only 5 were confirmed as eligible for U20. Source:

The Ethiopian Athletics Federation has conducted age verification, including MRI scans, on its athletes ahead of the African U18 and U20 Championships scheduled for July in Nigeria. Of the original 76 athletes screened, only 22 were cleared to compete: 6 male and 16 female.
