2 years ago I was told that a
#HIV
+ person could not become a pilot. Tomorrow is my first day working for a UK airline. As
@gareththomas14
has proven, HIV is NO BARRIER to you being you. In fact it can give you the courage, strength and determination to break real barriers down.
5 years ago I was told that I could never become a pilot becuase of my HIV status. These changes today make it possible for anyone living with
#HIV
to fulfill their dreams. I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of the team to have made it happen.
#hivisnobarrier
We’ve announced a landmark change for pilots and air traffic controllers living with HIV.
The update includes a six-month period where those who have not declared they are HIV positive can come forward to us without having to notify employers

What a week!
10 years ago today, I was diagnosed with HIV. The first question I asked the doctor was, "How long will I live?". We didn't know then, but we know now, that the answer to that question is just as long as you!
James Bushe had to fight outdated rules that barred him from becoming a pilot because he has
#HIV
.
Eventually he won.
Effective treatment has changed what it means to have HIV. We can live long, healthy lives. We can’t pass it on
#UequalsU
.
#ScienceNotStigma
. Tell everyone.
I'm overwhelmed by all of the messages of love and support that I've woken up to today. To those who have been with me since the start of this journey and have inspired me to speak out, thank you.

2022 I wanted to share my proudest moment of the last 12 months. So privileged to be a part of this
@THTorguk
campaign and combine 2 of my greatest passions. Never should
#HIV
be a barrier to you following your dreams.
This day 4 years ago, I failed to gain a place on a pilot training scheme with
@British_Airways
. This day last year, I failed to obtain my medical due HIV. Today, with training plan sorted, notice given and medical granted, I’m ready to start a new journey as Commerical Pilot!
Many interviews today, and I sign-off tonight feeling so grateful to the organiastion that has put their faith in me as a pilot and supported me to speak out today. If you haven't already, come fly with us at
@FlyLoganair
. It's a family, my family, and, we're pretty special!
Fiercely independent, quick witted and inconspicuously kind. I can only hope that if I make it to 82, I do it with the same style and grace as you. What you've left behind will never be replaced but I promise we won't forget. I love you Nan ❤️
I was 11 years old when I knew that I wanted to become an airline pilot. Last weekend, 20 years, 2 career changes one landmark campaign later, I finally passed my skills tests and became a qualified Multi-Engine, Instrument Rated, Commercial Pilot!
After a month of furlough, what an absolute privilege to spend a day in the
@FlyLoganair
'office'. Thanks
@bergjagger
for making us so welcome at ABZ and for the lovely
@NATS
guys who got us safely to NWI and home again.

Yesterday, 10 years after that life-changing moment, my dream finally became a reality, and I flew my very first flight for British Airways. To everyone who has helped me throughout the journey so far, THANK YOU. I couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you to
@VictoriaLIVE
for having me for my very first TV interview on Monday. Did I mention 🤔, someone living with HIV, on successful treatment,
#CantPassItOn
. There are still MANY MORE barriers to breakdown in Aviation and beyond and I'm determined to make it happen!

Let this be proof, that ANYONE living with HIV, or any other mangable chronic condition can FIGHT to live their dream, and WIN! The battle goes on to remove the limitation, but this one we can continue... from the SKY! Thank you to everyone who has made this first step possible.
He fought the law... and WON 😳💪
James Bushe, the first new commercial pilot with HIV in Europe and the U.K. joined me on +Talk via skype from the French Alps to share his story. Take a look!

There's more work to be done for people across the world who face challenges just like mine, and I want to help. For now though it's time to get acquainted with the new office and if I don't see you before, see you in the sky!

I came back home to this yesterday! Such a kind gesture from a stranger, but kindred spirit. Thank you Joanne and to everyone who has reached out over the past few weeks. It genuinely means the world to me to know that even in some small part my speaking out has had an impact. 💪
A whirwind 48 hours! I still pinch myself that a wee boy from Stoke gets the opportunity to speak on such incredible platforms. So many messages yesterday. I promise to get to them all this week. Thank you for all of the love and support, it honestly does mean the world. ❤️
Seems like a lifetime ago already! My very first time on TV with
@vicderbyshire
getting the message out that HIV has changed, discrimination based on status has no place in 2020 and someone on successful treatment

“Stigma around HIV has no place in 2020”
Europe's first newly-qualified pilot living with HIV
@PilotAnthonyGLA
exclusively tells Attitude why he is fighting to remove stigma surrounding the virus:
First newbie in Europe, but definitely not the last. Thank you to the
@UK_CAA
for taking a pioneering approach in the UK and lobbying
@EASA
to reform their regulations with regard to HIV. There's a long way to go, but absolutely no danger of us stopping now 💪
Great to be back in the office this week with
@FlyLoganair
. Annual line check passed and fit to fly another year 💪 Did you know, there's just a 1 in 27M chance of
#COVID19
transmission on an aircraft? Once the borders open, let's get flying again!
Wow! Incredibly proud to be nominated alongside
@nathansparkling
for this award. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in the journey so far.
#HIV
should be no barrier to anyone realising their dreams!
This is brilliant news and important for pilots living with HIV.
We want to thank the inspiring and determined pilots we worked with on this issue to achieve change and the
@UK_CAA
for taking action.
Hot-footing it down to LONDON this afternoon! I'm incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to speak on
@SkyNews
later this evening. I'll also get a chance to consolidate a decades worth of partially used Oyster cards! Today has started well!
As an aviation and travel fanatic, I was absolutely over the moon to be asked to write for
@lonelyplanet
. A slightly different perspective on the journey and an insight into what lies ahead...
Thank you so much
@AlexPButler
I had the opportunity to recognise the
@UK_CAA
who are the first authority in Europe to have allowed newly qualified pilots living with HIV to fly. And of course so proud to be wearing the
@FlyLoganair
uniform.
I cannot wait to talk to
@BBCRadioStoke
at 7.30am this morning. What a privilege to be able to share my story for the second day, and once again to everyone in my hometown.
My view on

today: Sunrise in Toulouse from a flight deck I was determined to make my office despite living with
#HIV
. Discrimination based on status has no place in 2020 and HIV is no barrier to you becoming whoever you want to be

2 years to the day that the rules got overturned! What a way to end such an incredible week, not for me, but for anyone living with HIV who has ever faced discrimination or stigma. It's proof that it has no place, we should fight against it, and if we do, we can win 💪
Couldn't have put it better than
@reallorraine
. I'm a son, a brother, an uncle, a pilot, a scuba diver, a friend, a partner, amd a man just like you. I'm HIV+, but the truth is I often forget! HIV has changed! Tell everyone!

I'm incredibly proud of the

1/ The decision of the
@UK_CAA
to grant my medical with the required multi-crew limitation (OML) has impact beyond people living with HIV. Now those with other conditions that would have previously bared them from flying, CAN, because they too can get a medical, with an OML.
Tonight, I'll be in London talking to

Wow! After everything that has gone and continues to go on in our industry just now, I was absolutely blown away with the incredible service from the crew on

to

this evening. Consummate professionals, with style.
With the support of friends and family, colleagues, charities, medical experts, politicians, and the media, I fought to change those rules, and today, anybody living with HIV can become a pilot.
Fantastic to address the

board this morning and incredibly proud of how far we've come these past few years! Very much looking forward to driving the changes across the globe....
We met with

Our Chair Sir Stephen Hillier and our Board spoke with their Chief Executive Jonathan Hinkles on regional connectivity.
And the influence our political leaders have can be life changing. Without

HIV has changed. Someone tell the White House.
It's been 4 years since I started my campaign to change rules for the better, to allow people living with HIV to become pilots.
In the UK, much has changed! Elsewhere though, the job is not done. I'm not done. Read all about it in my latest blog...
I, (Anthony) gave this talk to the organisation that had worked tirelessly to find medical evidence to compel the authorities to change the law. I will be forever grateful to

for standing by me the whole time.
