Today is #WorldAIDSDay and this year is especially meaningful. From sharing my story @British_Airways, to presenting to the @metpoliceuk, and the @UKMoD_DefenceRT now allowing people living with HIV to serve as aircrew. Seminal Progress. There's more to do, and Iโm here for it๐ช๐ป
This change happened because people living with HIV never give up, and because Terrence Higgins Trust and @BritishHIVAssoc made clear that a better way was possible. Find out more. ๐ https://t.co/h7mMqqWYzN

People living with #HIV continue to face stigma & discrimination. This #WorldAIDSday, watch Dr @teozka explain the science behind ZERO risk of HIV transmission when people take effective treatment & have undetectable viral load & why we need to destigmatize HIV. #HealthForAll

Today is World AIDS Day.ย Held every year on 1 December, it's a time to remember those we've lost to HIV. The red ribbon is the international symbol for HIV awareness and support for people living with HIV. But for our community, itโs more than a ribbon. #WorldAIDSDay

Yesterday, 10 years after that life-changing moment, my dream finally became a reality, and I flew my very first flight for British Airways. To everyone who has helped me throughout the journey so far, THANK YOU. I couldn't have done it without you.

With the support of friends and family, colleagues, charities, medical experts, politicians, and the media, I fought to change those rules, and today, anybody living with HIV can become a pilot.

I gave it my best, but I didn't get a place on that programme. I discovered that even if I had, the European regulations at the time prevented people living with HIV from becoming airline pilots. Despite this, I wasn't willing to let go of the dream.

Seconds after I left the hospital, got a call congratulating me on getting through to the final stage of the "then" British Airways Future Pilot Programme. I wasn't sure if my tears were of joy or sadness. The next question was, "What will this mean for my flying career?".

What a week! 10 years ago today, I was diagnosed with HIV. The first question I asked the doctor was, "How long will I live?". We didn't know then, but we know now, that the answer to that question is just as long as you!

Fiercely independent, quick witted and inconspicuously kind. I can only hope that if I make it to 82, I do it with the same style and grace as you. What you've left behind will never be replaced but I promise we won't forget. I love you Nan โค๏ธ
