Trump Accounts as designed will widen inequality and worsen the racial wealth gap. The Dell donation and future donations could be better targeted to families with lower incomes. Read more in our @CLASP_DC blog: #SOTU2026

To create a country where all children have generational wealth, lawmakers and donors need to invest in cash programs that effectively target families based on income and wealth.

Today the Senate voted on a party-line basis to block D.C. from spending its own local tax dollars, for the *second* year in a row. It’s bad news for families and businesses in the District, here’s why🧵

The Senate will consider a #DHS budget this week that increases funding for immigration enforcement and will lead to more people being needlessly victimized. Members of Congress must reject any legislation that empowers the administration to continue its attacks against families

Reproductive justice isn't just the right to an abortion. It's also the right to have the children you want to have in a safe & healthy environment, without being limited by financial constraints. Congress should oppose H.R. 6945.

Our @CLASP_DC fact sheet that we developed in collaboration with @ifwhenhow explains the harm of using TANF dollars toward crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs). CPCs often use shame and misinformation to pressure people away from getting an abortion.

Congress is considering a bill that would provide statutory authority for states to use federal TANF funds toward anti-abortion centers, also known as crisis pregnancy centers. TANF should go to families with low incomes, not centers that shame women.

The reported bipartisan House/Senate approps agreement would cut the IRS budget by $1B – a 9% cut from FY25 & a 40% cut since 2010 in real terms. And remarkably, this is the less-bad option. The House proposal cut the IRS budget by $2.8B, a 48% inflation-adjusted cut since 2010.
Congress agreed over the weekend to cut the IRS's base budget by a reported $1 billion. This would be a serious policy mistake at a time when the IRS remains severely depleted. Honest taxpayers deserve better.

Powerful perspective from a dad and PE teacher: "If the goal of immigration policy is public safety, then we must ask: safe for whom? Because my kids do not feel safer. My students do not feel safer. My neighbors do not feel safer." https://t.co/QuBClyDC7F

“Child care providers & state child care agency staff already put a lot of effort and energy into reporting how they spend their resources. Adding further reporting requirements to their overburdened workload will take their time & attention away from where it should be”@SCSchmit

I'm quoted in @newrepublic about the affordability crisis w/ Lorena Roque: "We can’t talk about affordability in this moment without naming the huge health care costs that families are now facing because of the expiration of the premium tax credits.” https://t.co/8BoA0NVxJh

Democrats are running on fixing it. Trump is running from it. But what does this year’s political buzzword really mean?

We have many examples of cash transfer programs & comprehensive research that demonstrates the utility of providing cash to children & families. Guaranteed income works & is essential for transforming our public benefits system into one that promotes equity, mobility & abundance.

My CLASP policy brief responds to New York Times reporting about the Baby's First Years study from this summer which questioned the effectiveness of guaranteed income (GI) programs. GI programs work, and one study shouldn't discount the success of them.

Yesterday, DHS proposed repealing the 2022 public charge rule. In turn, officers could arbitrarily deny green cards to immigrants based on their health, economic situation, or potential use of benefits like healthcare & food assistance. Learn more:
