It’s a scary time for those on Medical Assistance and who need government assistance and for those of us who serve them. I really wish that we didn’t have to make things exponentially harder.

I am deeply, deeply afraid that many of my members will lose their housing in a time where being unhoused is increasingly criminalized. My members have multiple chronic health conditions that they cannot effectively manage without permanent housing.

As a Care Coordinator and EW Case Manager, I have relied on HSS to help find my members housing while I focus on their health plan benefits and waivered services. I am not able to become the housing case manager for dozens of my members overnight.

I have members on the program about to move out of shelters or substandard housing that I’m no longer sure are going to be able to actually leave. No timeline was provided, and there’s no plan for those who are being kept in their housing through HSS-Sustaining.

MN DHS, in its infinite wisdom, decides to pull the rug out completely from those on Housing Stabilization Services instead of finding a better way to crack down on the fraud in the program.
