BQNP Update #96: After 5 years & nearly 100 posts, and with Bathurst Quay Common now open, this will be the last ‘BQNP Update’. Thanks for following this journey, which I’ve enjoyed documenting almost as much as building! Closing with some favourite before & after images. 1/10

Moses let Toronto have the spotlight. "Way back before diversity was a buzzword, Znaimer’s Citytv had reporters and anchors on television screens...who looked like the people who lived in Toronto. It wasn’t diversity. It wasn’t inclusion. It just was." https://t.co/CWBCLLTBHc

Citytv. MuchMusic. Speakers Corner. The list of what he created goes on and on — and we should make sure this city knows his legacy.

It was an honour to witness the naming of Ookwemin Minising and Biidaasige Park earlier today. The magnitude of this transformation is hard to reconcile with how it looks and feels as though the new river has always been there. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Felt really good at the @NDP press conference to say “the revitalized Bathurst Quay”. So great to see the Bathurst Quay neighbourhood get the same level of attention & care as the rest of the waterfront. Check out Bathurst Quay Common! https://t.co/MiZEfDvoAy

9/10: Though they are separate projects, the design, construction and success of Bathurst Quay Common and The Corleck have been carefully and intrinsically connected to one another.

8/10: New @StART_Toronto public art and streetscape improvements on Eireann Quay preserve and enhance pedestrian space along this busy north-south gateway to @BBishopAirport .

7/10: Bathurst Quay Common’s central ‘sun deck’, envisioned as a communal lakefront cottage patio, is already proving popular for informal gathering and programmed events.

6/10: The opening in 2025 of the Corleck Building will create a four season arts hub in the heart of this new public space. Seen here is the ongoing transformation of this once derelict and under-utilized storage/office building into a multi-purpose performance space.

5/10: The restored silos afford a larger than life canvas for projecting film and public art, as beautifully demonstrated by @OCAD during this year’s @nuitblancheTO .

4/10: A rebuilt dockwall and new promenade improves connectivity along the water’s edge and to Bathurst Quay Common, as well as providing an extension of public space for both animation and relaxation.

3/10: The restored malting silos, formerly unsafe and fenced off, now provide an illuminated architectural backdrop for a soon-to-be-complete event plaza available for community and cultural programming.

2/10: We broke ground in October 2019 with a symbolic demolition of the fences separating Ireland Park from the water’s edge. Now this poignant famine memorial is open and connected on all sides, as it was always meant to be.
