“Shamelessly tanking will create a loser culture!” The Flyers culture as a result of them never shamelessly tanking:
@broadburnt @TheBeez1588 They HAVE been trying to increase their chances of drafting high. They've been sellers at every deadline. They've loaded up on draft picks. The team overperformed, as most Torts-coached teams do. They obviously value the culture they are building than they do shamelessly tanking.

It’s telling that Tocchet’s first deflection is to Vladar. Sorry, the backup goalie having a career year (carrying the team to an incredible 17-10-7) does not matter more than Michkov, no matter how much the Flyers want to take victory laps around that performance.
Rick Tocchet with a 42-second moment of frustration with the Flyers media for too many questions about Matvei Michkov It’s definitely become a “thing” I really hope he has a great offseason and comes out of the blocks great next season because things ain’t good with him now

To think all of this could have been avoided if the Flyers weren’t dead set on handing the coaching gig to whoever the most eligible Flyers alumni on the market was. Idiocy compounds over time.

I’ll give Ant his credit here. Great headline.
The Flyers went too far in suspending Tim Saunders. Plain and simple. My story from @OnPattison: https://t.co/fnfoCwJ01v

This has to be the most bonkers explanation of Michkov’s season yet. At least “He’s out of shape” makes physical sense. “Zegras stole his minutes” only makes sense in a world where one player on a team can thrive. But maybe that’s the world the Flyers operate in.

“4th best prospect pool in the league” “Playoff experience” “Not tanking on purpose” Time is actually a flat circle
@broadburnt @atphillyowl11 They have the 4th best prospect pool in the league and one of the youngest rosters with young stars like michkov zegras foerster york drysdale andre and grebenkin on the roster. Allow the future core to get playoff experience. You don’t go from last to contender overnight

Having cap room is not a plan. Being young is not a plan. What is the actual plan to turn this middling team into the Philadelphia Avalanche?
@broadburnt Briere has a plan. ETA 2027-28. Traded one major asset, 2nd rd pick for Zegras. No major FA signings, Vladar, Dvorak. Cleared out the players who didn't fit. 4th youngest team getting younger while competing for PO spot. Full talent pipeline, cap room. No panic moves.

Two years ago, to the day, the Flyers were in a Metro playoff spot. None of this matters without a plan in place to turn a playoff team into an actual contender. The front office wants to take victory laps at the idea of being a playoff team.
The #Flyers sit on top of the Wild Card standings this morning despite only having 9 regulation wins and 11 regulation + OT wins. Only Columbus (7, 9) has less of each in the Eastern Conference.

If Matvei Michkov is so horrid at skating and defense that he can’t be played in 3on3 overtime, what does that say about the scouts who picked him? The GM who relied the rebuild on him? The coaches who are supposed to be developing him?

Gee, I wonder what led a mass of the fanbase to believe Michkov is literally unplayable. Could it be the coach refusing to play him in overtime? Could it be affiliated media members insisting that’s Michkov’s fault?

This is important to remember. Two years ago we were hearing the same stuff: “The Flyers are finding a way to compete with good teams.” That ended up being irrelevant. We’re stilling spinning in the mud with almost nothing to show for it.
Observation: The Flyers are currently 16-9-6 through 31 games They were 18-10-3 through 31 games two seasons ago in 2023-24

Matvei Michkov is not literally unplayable for a defensive zone draw. We are being led to believe that a struggling player or a player with deficiencies base never been used in spite of them.
@broadburnt Do you want to put Michkov out there on defensive zone draws? When was he supposed to get a shift?

Call Michkov a non-plus skater. Point out his sophomore slump. But he’s still not literally unplayable in overtime, no matter what Tocchet and the beat shills will have you believe

This is the Flyers’ Stanley Cup. There is nothing that would make Jones and Briere prouder than this timeline. Fought hard for a playoff spot? Rewarded a good solider by not trading him? This is Flyers 101
How you gonna feel when the Flyers don't trade Christian Dvorak for a haul at the deadline, then miss the playoffs, draft 13th overall... and there's no good free agents left?

The Hughes trade really puts things into perspective. In Philadelphia, we have beat writers fanning the flames of a Christian Dvorak extension.

I wouldn’t have liked it because I never wanted to rebuild this way. Reliance on trades is an expensive, risky way to do business. But the Flyers chose this way. What else did they expect?
@broadburnt lol, so if the Flyers would have traded Martone, York, Luchanko and a first for a year and a half of Hughes you would have liked it?

Prepare for the best writer puff pieces following the Hughes trade. “The Flyers weren’t willing to pay that much” “The Flyers couldn’t beat that package” “Briere will keep exploring his options” If you can’t pay the price for Quinn Hughes, what is this all for?

A team in Year 3 of a rebuild, who is actively trying to make the playoffs, doesn’t have a young, NHL-ready center? These aren’t little “Oopsy! Oh well!” details that should be glossed over. This is an abject failure.

“The Flyers were never going to beat that offer anyway.” Why? How? A rebuilding team that supposedly has been stockpiling assets, loves their prospect pool, and wants to trade for a 1D now suddenly doesn’t have the means to?
The Flyers have been rebuilding for 3 years and probably don't have a way to match that offer. There are no elite players on the market. The rebuild failed.
