“I’ve struggled a bit since running the marathon (Australian record) so so knew I wasn’t coming in with 100% fitness but the goal was top three but I’m happy with that, it was a solid run.” - Brett Robinson

Brett Robinson and his coach Nic Bideau had thought he was capable of this record for some time. Had struggled with a stitch late in races and while he said it still affected him today, he was able to deal with it by breathing differently in Fukuoka and was rewarded with the NR.
HISTORY HAS BEEN MADE! Brett Robinson is Australia's fastest ever man across 42.2km, running 2:07.31 at the Fukuoka International Marathon this afternoon. Brett slashed the 36-year-old record held by Rob De Castella by 20 seconds. More to come. #ThisIsAthletics

It’s a great day for @AthsAust & Australian distance running. This is great resilience from a very talented runner 🏃♂️ in @brettrobinson91 36 years from memory @deek207 🇦🇺that is one hell of a run 2.07.31
Jack Rayner take a bow also. Pacing duties for @brettrobinson91 to make that AUS record happen. His day will come to improve Robbo’ record. #FukuokaMarathon
