Recently, I facilitated a training with graduate trainees of Coronation bank on Strategic Planning for Campaigns. My highlight of the sessions was the feedback on how the training made strategy interesting & not theoretical. The best way to do/teach strategy is to be interesting.

I added 20k to my driver's salary in January. This is to appreciate him for the wahala of looking for fuel. He has helped in no small measure during this crisis. I owe my productivity to him. The excitement in his voice when he got the alert showed I did the right thing.

In marketing, we call this move by Portable "Premiumization." It's an approach used to increase the value of a brand/portfolio through a transition from mainstream/VFM to premium category. Don't be surprised if, after the #BritishFashionAwards , Portable's appearance fee goes up.

This photo represents what used to be the pride of Yorubaland; raising children who are educated, high-achieving, responsible Omoluabis. But now, the elites betrayed the ancestors, spat on our heritage, and refused to uphold the same values that raised them. All because of greed.

A small bonus to encourage your employees during this crisis will go a long way to show them the business cares. If you can get access to cash, you can pay half of their salary in cash and the rest through transfers. This will ensure punctuality and improve productivity too.

Opay didn't pivot to payment. Payment has always been part of the plan. The initial services of Ride hailing, food ordering, bike hailing, etc were part of a well-schemed strategy to onboard users, which they later converted with a bullish payment play.

STRATEGY HACKS 002 Honestly, the safest place to do strategy is the desk, googling stuff. But there is a lot more to humans and brands than Google or ChatGPT can provide. Everytime I've stepped out of my desk to engage real people, the quality of insights I get blows my mind.

This also applies to a brand that wants to premiumize, helping to establish the market opportunity within the category. 2. Product-Market Fit: The premiumized brand must meet identified needs in the market. For e.g Smirnoff spotted a market need for flavoured, low alcohol drinks

Why not an Andela for marketing talents? Social media is just a tiny piece of the digital marketing pie, which in turn is another tiny piece within the marketing communication universe. An accelerator for marketing talents is a lot broader, with many opportunities to explore.

@Oolah_Ola That's an erroneous POV. Companies pay you for the value you bring to the table. Forgetting your dream is entirely at ur discretion. TeamApt, PayStack, Interswitch, Insight Publicis, Noah's ark, Flutterwave, etc are few examples of great companies founded by ex-employees.

An underrated relationship hack is learning how to see people and not see them finish. You see them warts and all, but you choose to acknowledge their strength, respect their space whenever they ask for it, and inspire a drive towards a transformation that's not yet in existent.

Nigerians' secret sauce is Openess, and you only learn that when you come from a country that has a weird mix of ethnicities. We tend to underestimate how our diversity has taught us to be open and flexible with other cultures. Nigeria is like many African countries in one place.

I used to be embarrassed when I saw Nigerians loud and agitated in other African countries until I realized that these people complain but many of them like it. Our signature. I was outside in Lome on Friday and heard Nigerian music everywhere. From Supermarkets to the hospital.

Consumers need to perceive value and the business need to find a strategy to engineer it. Rolex had to make their wrist watch heavier bcos their TA perceive light wrist watch as cheap. When western brands were migrating to Asia to save production cost, LMVH kept production...

This informed the launch of Smirnoff ICE in the RTD category. Smirnoff originally played in Vodka space. This is why identified needs determine if premiumization will happen within/outside a category. 3. Brand-Portoflio Fit: Some portfolios need to be defended from competition.

You need another lens of culture to be able to understand the economy's trajectory & make appropriate business decisions. For e.g, a global teleco shelved their plans to come into the Nigerian market because data showed that the market is only worth 5m subscribers.

My principle for success is very simple. If you help as many people as possible to get what they want, you will get what you want eventually. Whatever you don't have now, you are not giving enough of it. When things are tough, I simply find somewhere to serve or someone to help.
