We've seen this before. Chipping away at Section 230 to 'protect children,' despite there being better ways. And we saw that it has ended up mostly marginalizing vulnerable groups further, and not actually protecting kids in practice. Do you want to be the collateral this time?

Let's do a case study on a similar bill with similar narratives and intentions: FOSTA/SESTA. This was a law passed in 2018 to crack down on trafficking, especially of children. However, in practice, it actually made it harder to find perpetrators and pushed everything underground

The main concerns with KOSA have to do with privacy concerns from the methods platforms will use to get data/assume age, the permeability of the companies they'll outsource that to, and issues of censorship based on 'what's appropriate for children' when there's no clear terms.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is a proposed U.S. law intended to protect minors from specific online harms. It will do this by repealing Section 230 (which protects online platforms from liability for the content users post). Seems like a good thing? Not in practice.
