@bnrome @NEJM @realDonaldTrump Very important point regarding the key role of randomized clinical trials in long-term drug-development decision-making. That said, thousands will die today. Would Dr. Rome advocate waiting for “imminent” randomized trial data as a family member went on the vent this afternoon?

@bnrome @NEJM @realDonaldTrump Science and pragmatism to help people who are at risk today are not mutually exclusively. We should of course be rigorous and evidenced-based, but not disconnect from the real suffering and death that is occurring right now as we speak.

@bnrome @NEJM @realDonaldTrump Not everyone has access to a trial, much less a trial with an agent they/their physician would like to use.....and not everyone is willing to randomize their life and family to “best supportive care” for a disease that did not exist 3 mo ago.....
