You absolutely cannot get rid of the desire to monitor the situation no matter how hard you try.
One very insane thing I learned when my wife and I stayed with the Amish last winter was this:. I was reading an Amish mail order catalog; when I saw toys, I knelt down to show the kids. They were fascinated by them, but when the "toy trucks" page came up, the boys went nuts.

I’ve lived at both ends of this spectrum. The actual money coming in has almost nothing to do with the way you live your life. The money is just a resource you use to live it. If you’re not living the life you want at $30k/yr, you’re not going to do it at $300k/yr either.
How much money do you need coming in every month to do exactly what you want to do, when you want to do it?. I think my number is $30,000. Beyond that, life wouldn't change much at all.

Vegas in its current form could only exist for a single generation. Seeing hundreds of elderly sitting, alone, feeding money into slot machines, is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen. Nobody could see that, and then go on to live it themselves.
🚨 BREAKING: Las Vegas just reported an 11% drop in tourism revenue; a stunning signal that a recession is knocking. Vegas is the canary in the coal mine. When people stop spending there, it means they’re cutting back everywhere.

My wife and I have celebrated the “Curtis Means Line”, that is; the youngest baby ever born to survive, when we cross it for all of our kids. I guess we’re updating the name. Also: this is an appropriate thing to cry about.
