Very happy to 'discover' that the @NASAJuno imagery is every bit as spectacular as Voyager/Cassini. Just a lot more challenging to process.

A map-projected montage comparing an area on Io imaged by @NASAJuno on Dec 30, 2023 (left) and Feb 3, 2024 (right). In the Feb 2024 image, specular reflections are visible whereas no such reflections are visible in the Dec 30, 2023 image. The reason: Different viewing geometry.

Image PJ58_26 from @NASAJuno on Feb 3, 2024. The small, bright features are specular reflections from features that normally appear dark (volcanic glass?). A plume is visible at lower right, it's been brightened rel to other parts of the image & is heavily processed. North is up.

Img PJ57_23 of Io from @NASAJuno on 2023-12-30. N is up. The nightside's brightness was increased to show details illuminated by Jupitershine. Loki is at lower right; it's the best view of it since Voyager 1 in 1979 (PJ57_22 is a higher res but far more oblique view than PJ57_23)

A quick and early version of image PJ57_22 of Io obtained yesterday (Dec 30, 2023) by @NASAJuno. North is up. The brightness of the nightside has been increased to show details illuminated by Jupitershine. The color is preliminary and probably not very far from Io's real color.
