"Oh mate." He shouted at me. "What's the date on this bread? When does it go off butt?"
I took a look.
"December the fifth" I said, and then thought, that can't be right.

I took the loaf off him for a better look. Yep. December the 5th! That's a look time for bread. I'm almost screaming like him. Next thing I know, he calls more drunk people in and they're all looking at this bread that goes off in December. One guy says it's a Christmas miracle.

There's a moment of calm as the bread is divided. I give the rest to the drunk guy who started it all. We say goodbye and agree to meet up on the 5th December to eat the bread in the petrol station.

I'm the only sober one so I offer to buy the bread.
"I'll buy the bread."
Outside we open it up and take a slice each. I'm not even pissed but I swear this slice of bread makes me want to weep. There's six of us dividing the bread up and putting it safely in our pockets etc.

I swear, I held that bread like a baby and nearly wept. It goes off on the 5th of December we kept saying. It looks like normal bread. We need to buy it. We can't buy it because we can't eat it.

I'm 9 months sober today, which means it's been 9 months and 1 day since I drank half a pint of whisky with popcorn in it, and then missed my last train home because I'd sat on a ketchup sachet and thought my arse cheek was bleeding.

I find this both incredible and very normal. Today I am three years sober! On this day in 2020, I woke up with a hangover and thought “I’ve had enough of that now.” Going sober has changed my life. I feel like I’ve saved an important version of myself and I’m grateful for that 💜

This evening I did a tough tempo run, and then popped in to the gym to say hello to my GB vest from the World Champs. I broke the Welsh record twice in two consecutive races in that vest.

In 2007 when I raced at the The Fanny Blankers Koen Games, I was up early for breakfast at the hotel on race day! I sat down to eat & then Bolt came in. There were loads of empty tables around me, but he sat at mine & started chatting like we were best mates 💜

In 2018 I stopped running because it hurt and I wasn't going anywhere! I thought my running days were behind me! How wrong was I!?! Look at my mileage since 2015!
2015 = 113 miles
2016 = 154 miles
2017 = 273 miles
2018 = 10 miles
2019 = 1748 miles
2020 = 2026 miles (so far)

I'll say more about it later on, but I just ran a 34 minute 10km & I'm absolutely over the moon. It's crazy to think that at the start of the year I struggled to run faster than 45 minutes for the 10k. My training has been all about consistency and balance. I love running.
