Chrome users could be migrated to an open source Chromium browser which forces them to pick their default search engine. Most would still choose Google, which would then provide Google with the revenue to continue investing in Chromium, but under a more open governance structure.

As an alternative, what if Chrome/Chromium was spun out as a new independent not-for-profit Chromium Foundation, funded by Google (by court order) plus the other browser vendors who build on top of Chromium?.

There are few companies in the world with deep enough pockets to fund a project of this size, and I'm not convinced any of them would actually be a better home than Google.

Technically feasible? Sure, given enough time and resources. But where would the nine figure annual revenue come from to support "ChromeCo" as a standalone business?

The climate crisis is an international emergency which requires mobilisation at all levels of business and government in a way never been seen before. We need more allies from all political parties who can push this agenda and treat the crisis with the urgency it deserves.

I appreciated that the policymakers took time out of what was a very busy day in parliament, and it was incredible to be in a building with so much history and in such close proximity of the inner workings of our democracy.

At the peak of this week's heatwave we met with MPs, Lords and tech leaders deep in the bowels of the Palace of Westminster to discuss how digital tools from all corners of the country can help the UK reach net zero by 2050.

@krellian @sageuk @techUK Tackling the climate crisis and driving economic growth don't have to be mutually exclusive. This is a fantastic opportunity for tech innovators and policymakers to collaborate and ensure we're leveraging innovations from all UK regions for a green economy that benefits everyone.

I've been using Dia (@diabrowser) for a week now and I what I like about it is that it enhances rather than replaces web pages, using your open tabs and browsing history as context to provide meaningful insights.

Dia (@diabrowser) read my last ten blog posts and concluded "Ben’s writing is a tapestry of technical exploration, open-source advocacy, and a gentle, persistent optimism about the web’s potential to empower users and communities." I'll take that.

An exhilarating and exhausting few days in Atlanta, representing @Krellian at the @SageFoundation Impact Entrepreneurship Programme Summit with @VillageCapital. I've learnt a huge amount the last three months and built valuable new relationships. #Impact #Startup #ClimateTech

Side note: I don't love the RPC style that MCP is using. Like with the AT Protocol that Bluesky is using for social media it reminds me a bit too much of SOAP/XML-RPC and I feel misses a lot of lessons we've learnt with the web.

This is a slightly more webby approach to creating conversational interfaces, where websites can embed their own chat interface but agents can also query them programmatically. The latter raises big questions about the future business model of currently ad-supported websites.

Dare I say it's a bit like a modern take on VoiceXML, but using LLM chatbots as user agents and leveraging de-facto standard structured data formats like and RSS. Websites expose an API that responds to a natural language query with structured data.
