After 22 years of training brilliant young journalists at three great teaching centres, I’m taking a break from teaching. Today is my last day at City, University of London. I’m taking a break before consultancy work. Thanks to my great students and colleagues. Onwards!

Govt resuscitating PFI folly. For £1 of public investment it wants £3 from private sector. How much will be repaid from public purse? For £60bn of PFI, £306bn paid back. Cheaper for govt for borrow than private sector. It can create money, tax the rich. https://t.co/w4kM4D9KGI

A THREAD: it’s now exactly a week since the worst #GeneralElection defeat in the 190-year history of the Conservative Party, & over the past 7 days I’ve been truly amazed at how little blame has gone the way of Boris Johnson. (1/9)

Watch this it’s fascinating - I asked James Timpson what he’d do about prisons and sentencing if he was in charge. He believes only a third of prisoners in jail should definitely be there. He’s now in charge of prisons (but not sentencing).
