I put together this printable summary sheet, and bookmark, capturing the central constructs at the heart of You Said This Would Be Fun. Perhaps it's useful as a reference/reminder If you're a designer, I suspect you have cardstock to print it on! https://t.co/pydLVybhwW

I'm not particularly great at programming games but this one looks fun! https://t.co/PadvyydYoa: the adventurous family board game on @Kickstarter

I like what Deck Hand is doing here: games that utilize components everyone probably has (playing cards in this case), and only provide the bespoke pieces you need to play. Check it out! Deck Hand Games @Kickstarter @danielrocchi67

@elonmusk @VivekGRamaswamy @InternRevServ Why does the IRS need $85 to verify, "yes, this guy paid taxes and is a US resident". And why does that fee disappear? You've paid the fee, when we get the info, we process the request. And why isn't there a website or phone number? A frustrating bureaucracy, ripe for reform!

Dear @elonmusk @VivekGRamaswamy please direct particular attention at the @InternRevServ in your DOGE efforts! I have twice filed a form and twice been erroneously told I didn't respond to requests for info (which had to be faxed or mailed) and my $85 fee was forfeited.

Wow. Apparently my social media reach is non-existent. Ok, I don't really see the point of this; time to turn off another light I guess. For the 10 people who will see this, take care and be well!

If you are an oncologist with the ability to bring Simbarashe to your country for a procedure, please contact his aunt Violet, via the GoFundMe. The rest of us can help by contributing to the GFM to help offset his care and support him and his family.

Let's use social media to try to do some good. This is Simbarashe from Zimbabwe. He's been living with a carcinoid tumor since age 4 and has endured many hardships. If we all RT, perhaps it will reach on oncologist who might be able to help him. RT! https://t.co/p3dXwh0JjJ

Here's a friendly reminder (if you needed one) that Holy Week is a great time to bust out your copy of Acts of the Evangelists, the world's first and only game about writing the gospels. If you don't have a copy, alas, it's sold out, but the PNP is here: https://t.co/r5NIQ9iX4i

🧵 I ran a poll that's generating some interesting data. I asked, "For [these games], would you still play the game if it had prototype-quality production?" The theory being, if you like the gameplay, you'd probably be willing to play, pretty or no. https://t.co/Kl7HoTt83s

It's difficult to decouple a game's art and visual presentation from its gameplay in terms of what contributes to our enjoyment of the game. "Both", most gamers will say. I think that one way to...

Anyway, have a look at the poll results and respond to this thread with your own thoughts! I mean, if you want to, of course.

These results suggest that this is not entirely true; that perhaps it's actually the /artists/ who deserve more! I have no objection to artists getting paid, of course, but one wishes that design, and the "above the table" experience it creates, was considered the main draw.

Of course, it's harder for "just-ok-looking" games to stand out, which is why publishers make pretty games. But I think it hurts the case we designers might try to make about, for example, we deserve higher royalties because our games are the sine qua non of the product.

But for those of us who design, it means that the appreciation for great game mechanics is skewed, and probably reduced, by the importance of our games' visual presentation, when it's lavish. Whereas, with a less-lavish presentation, the game shines through more.

What does this mean? I think, maybe a couple of things. I've said that the industry has made a devil's bargain by marketing to gamers' eyeballs first and foremost. And that's true; people cannot decouple the game from the art. Not that they have to.

That's not the case for "pretty" games. Scythe, Wingspan, Root, Arnak, Everdell: people would only reluctantly play these games with proto-quality production, or would not play them at all.

And that's been true for many games, but mostly games that aren't known for being "pretty": Puerto Rico, El Grande, Lost Cities (ok that one's pretty), Power Grid. People would happily play these with proto-quality production.
