During the second half of class today, the pecan management class followed up on their grafting success! Many did well! We talked irrigation in the orchard and then met at Hoffman’s pecan farm for a tour. #okpecans

Yesterday’s Pecan pest workshop featured several speakers including Dr. Mustafa Jibrin, Kelly Seuhs, Kevin Shelton, Charles Luper, Kenton Stanley, and Becky Carroll.

A Native Pecan Field Day was held at Leon Bailey’s farm last Thursday. About 170 growers and landowners learned how to take a forested area and thin to make a productive grove. Tree spacing was emphasized since it is the most problematic issue with native pecan production.

Yesterday’s Pecan Crop Load Thinning Demo was well attended at Hauani Creek Pecans near Madill. Many improved cultivar growers would benefit greatly from crop management this season. Another demo is scheduled for Aug 8 at 4pm at Perkins.
