No individual did more in the 21st century to spread the ideas and practice of a fighting, community-rooted, member-driven labor movement than Jane McAlevey. The United States and the world need her more than ever at this exact moment. It’s incredibly cruel that she’s gone.

Rest in Power, Jane. A woman who taught and inspired union organisers around the globe. Her legacy will be felt in the victories of working people who continue to come together in the fight for a better workplace and a better world.
We're very saddened to hear about the passing of Jane McAlevey, a true legend in labor organizing. May her memory be a blessing. Her lessons certainly are.

Oh, I see we’re revisiting the old classics.🙄 “Let’s cut down on managers in the NHS” Why is this such a popular attack line? Just the smallest amount of critical thinking will show what a nonsensical idea this is…. A little🧵 for you! 1/8

Civil servants should never be put in the position of choosing between following a ministerial instruction & the law. We’ve taken the decision to launch a JR of the Rwanda Act. We do so to protect our members, to protect their integrity & their ability to adhere to the CS code.
The FDA has today launched a judicial review of the Safety of Rwanda Act. We do not welcome this action, but neither are we prepared to shy away from it as we must protect the interests of our members and the integrity of the Civil Service Code.

The horrific attacks in Israel cannot justify the limitless destruction of Gaza. The evacuation orders, coupled with the complete siege, are not compatible with IHL. We are committed to providing aid to Gaza and we reiterate our readiness to visit the hostages there. Read

Tomorrow, a woman in England will be sentenced for ending her own pregnancy. The maximum sentence she could receive is up to life imprisonment - the harshest penalty in the world. We need abortion law reform now. Report from @HannahAlOthman in today’s @thetimes

There’s a reason you can’t get a doctor’s appointment, that the NHS is on its knees and that public transport is a complete mess in this country The reason is not the desperate people arriving in boats. It’s the people desperately pointing at them to cover for their own failures

139 teachers sadly lost their lives during the pandemic. Teaching unions fought to keep teachers and pupils safe. And now we see what this government thought of those efforts.

"Its not just about money in our pockets, it is about being able, in the 21st century, in a rich country like Britain, to provide decent and safe healthcare" Dave, who has been a nurse for over 30 years, explains from the picket line why nurses are on strike today #NursesStrike

From dawn until dusk, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you’ve braved sub-zero temperatures to make the case for fair pay and patient safety. You tell us the public support is overwhelming. Thank you. Together, we will win. #FairPayForNursing #RCNStrike #NursesStrike

NHS managers are some of the most decent, hard-working people I know. They’re playing a crucial role right now in holding the NHS together. They deserve a LOT better than this.

We are delighted that MPs have passed legislation to establish buffer zones around abortion clinics in England and Wales. At BPAS, we have been working tirelessly for almost a decade to end anti-abortion clinic harassment. Thank you to everyone who has campaigned alongside us!

Great to be in the hall at #TUC22 as @FrancesOGrady outlined how trade unions deliver for workers. Our most powerful asset is our collective strength. We will use it: "When workers are left with no choice but to vote for strike action for decent pay, I say: bring it on."

This year's NHS pay award was not an 'offer'. It was not negotiated with staff or unions. It was imposed without consultation. We can change this. But the govt will only negotiate on pay if staff are willing to take industrial action. That's why we're urging members to vote YES.
