Early this year, I was diagnosed with a rare brain condition that upended my life. It's treatable, but is hard to treat due to its rarity.

I feel awful about this, but:
Yesterday I received a call from the hospital that is treating my brain aneurysm. My cost estimate has increased from $25,000 to over $115,000. This is an astronomical, unmanageable amount. I have updated my GFM goal.

UPDATE: I received an email from my doctor today, and I apparently have a Venous Aneurysm that needs to be fixed in addition to everything else.
So this is kind of more urgently needed than I thought it was?

Last year, I was diagnosed with a venous brain aneurysm.
My insurance did not cover local treatment of this, so I had to travel and go a self-pay route. I was told it would be 25k.
This was changed to 115k right before surgery.

COMICALLY IMMEDIATE UPDATE: Since I made this post I was called by the hospital AGAIN, and they have FURTHER increased the amount I owe to over $122,000.
It's such a massive number that the extra 7000 feels like a drop in the bucket, but that's where I'm at now, I guess.

POSTED AN UPDATE AND REDUCED THE GOAL TO 75k!! I managed to get a solid 50k knocked off my estimate, and hopefully can change that even more once I have a real bill!
EITHER WAY, this DOES put at almost 50% to the goal!! Stuff has slowed down a ton, so please share if you can!

ok, a day later and what we have learned thus far means we are looking at a long hospital stay and a 50% chance of survival
this isn't a formal gofundme yet but rent is getting increasingly stressful cause we are down an income, any help is appreciated
rare serious post: my dad is in the ER with something pretty bad (we got him there essentially a day before he would have died w/o medical attention) and he is uninsured, so if he makes it out of there i will probably be making a gofundme or something

I genuinely do not think that a number this high is reachable and I know that I'll have to handle a lot of this myself, ultimately, but literally anything is appreciated because my options are essentially "lifetime of medical debt" or "die of aneurysm" at this point. Not great?

I've been in communication with the billing department and my surgical coordinator, and chances are that getting this unfathomable amount of money reduced to a more reasonable sum MAY be possible, but it is not guaranteed, and I'm kind of just being left to deal with it for now.

ACTUAL GOOD NEWS: ive been in talks w/ the hospital i had this done at and already have had my bill reduced to around 70k! still 3x what i was told id be paying but its less bad than.. 120k.
this is also BEFORE applying for financial assistance so hopefully that helps 🤞
