My personal approach to effective altruism is meritmaxxing, and right now the ODF has a 2-for-1 special on dharma-per-dollar. If you're looking for good karma, it's an amazing deal
Meditation retreats change lives, but many who need it most can't afford them. ODF is the only independent meditation scholarship fund. Help make retreats accessible to all – give now and donations are DOUBLED! Link in Reply

Yesterday I learned about the "photo-taking impairment effect" from @billardkarr, how taking a pic of an event or object reduces one's memory of it compared to simply observing it Today I received this from my @WeCroakApp "It is enough"

.@LeRoyDesCimes's brilliant thread reminds me exactly why this is one of my favorite shirts
The ugly truth of community building is that its prized commodity is Cool People. You attract people by telling them Cool Person is coming to your thing, and don't you want a chance to gravitate in their orbit? Which makes failure all too personal: you're just Not Cool Enough

In leaving small group conversations that you were actively part of, is it better to acknowledge that you're gonna wander off, or better to French exit?

this great @dreamyweather thread articulates the general, & inevitable, phenomenon of "ppl leaving the broad top-of-funnel space to go hang out in more intimate spaces" the very first time i heard abt this was yrs ago when i started going to NYC rat meetups and asked @yashkaf (a

brilliant essay on "chronically online" conversations: "where strangers make willfully decontextualized moral judgments on other people’s lives [..] what all of these arguments have in common is that very few people engage in them in real life"

hello, it's Sunday and time for your next reread of Sasha Chapin's Deep Okayness. thanks @garbledgarfield for the reminder 💞 https://t.co/Ca1Y8aRrV2 "It is the deactivation of the part of my mind that used to attack itself. It’s the closure of the self as an attack surface."

body scans: for years I'd get bored by this technique, assuming it "had" to be minute and thorough. now I realize it can be a sweep of my body, scanning for any tension inadvertently held, before gently releasing it. how funny to over-engineer body scans for myself for so long.

7/x My research is neither done in a vacuum nor meant to be objective; it is shaped by my own experiences of migration, precarious work, lack, loss, and by the conviction that research only matters if it helps transform reality.

Mlotek writes near the end, 'only to say later that you hadn’t known what you were doing.' I love a sentence like that: casual, but never cavalier, as mortifying as it is true."

"'It is not that divorce reveals a more elemental aspect to a person’s character—although it certainly can—but that it is the only way to find out who we are in those moments of pain, loss, and shame that come after standing up in front of the people you trust and love the most'
