I'm very sad to say that this is my last week at
@Chatelaine
. I'm moving on to something exciting, but it was not an easy decision to leave these smart, creative women, a power team committed to meaningful stories, beautifully told, that put the FUN in FEMINISM.
Many people have commented and even congratulated me as Chats has gotten better! And better! And better! But don't let my fancy title fool you: this is a team effort, and this team is led by
@MaureenHalushak
. She's the brains behind this operation. I'm just the mouth.
Maureen is the best boss I've ever had, proof that you can do excellent journalism and have high standards while also being kind and open to risks and change. She's the one that decided to quantify our inclusion efforts & she's the one that does the math.
A year ago,
@Chatelaine
pledged that 40 percent of our freelance content would be created by writers who are Black, Indigenous or otherwise racialized. We've now met that goal—and remain committed to broadening the scope of Canadian media. A short note:
@balkissoon
@Chatelaine
Brava
@balkissoon
! You've done such fantastic work
@Chatelaine
and it was really a joy to watch (and read!). Huge congratulations on a job so wonderfully done ❤️
I can't wait to see what's next for you
@balkissoon
@Chatelaine
Your and your team transformed Chatelaine, which I’ve been reading since I was a kid and my mom subscribed. Doris Anderson was Editor then, which gives you an idea of how long ago that was. It’s once again the best Canadian mag on the stands now, IMO. All the best.
