For years, I actively chose not to come out to my grandmother in an effort to maintain our relationship. When I got in engaged in 2020, I finally came out—and she accepted me. Now, she has dementia, so I come out to her again and again. For @Chatelaine:

In the 15 years I’ve been coming out, rarely have I had to disclose my identity again and again to the same person. That all changed after my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia.
