Matchroom League - Hamburg 1993 - Jimmy's great escape. Jimmy White with a masse shot to escape a snooker against O'Sullivan, you need a lot of self-belief and confidence to even attempt this in a match. Ronnie's on record as saying this is the greatest shot he's ever seen.

Paul Hunter's 2004 maximum attempt - it tells you a lot about his temperament that when a bad contact ended his chances of a 147 he just says "oh well" and knocks in his highest tournament break of 146. Paul was born on the 14th October 1978, he would have been 44 today. RIP

In January 1998 Paul Hunter claimed his first ranking event at the Welsh Open. He would go on to claim the British Open, three Masters and a second Welsh Open title in a tragically short career. Paul was born on 14th October 1978 and would have turned 45 today.

Forty-two years ago on 7th April 1981 Jimmy White made his Crucible debut against Steve Davis. In the second session 'The Whirlwind' made his first half century - in under two minutes - at the venue, showing the crowd a glimpse of things to come from a very gifted young player.

35 years ago today Steve Davis was awarded Sports Personality of the Year. This year's awards are on December 19th and Ronnie O'Sullivan will again be among the nominees, he's also likely to miss out (again) despite continuing to achieve so much after 31 years as a professional.

Ray Reardon discussing his retirement with David Vine, during the 1992 world championship. Although retired in '91, he did play in the 2000 seniors event and appeared at one of the Legends Tour exhibitions in 2010 - Ray, who's 88 today, now lives in Torquay, Devon.
